Re: Beer Thread - shadowcast - 08-16-2010

Quote:Belgium is THE best beer country in the world and they make too many kinds...

I am arriving a bit late to this thread, but I will post my current common rotation:
Sprecher Abbey Triple, Black Bavarian
St. Bernardus Abt. 12, Tripel
Rochefort 8, and 10 (When I can get my hands on it.  New dist should be arriving in the next couple weeks YAY!)
Grimbergen Dark
Cigar City Jai Alai
Weyerbacher Old Heathen Imperial Stout, Merry Monks Belgian Strong Pale Ale (tripel), Blithering Idiot Barley Wine Style Ale, The 15 Imperial Stout (I am going to drink my room mate's bar out of this shit)
Great Divide Double Wit
Lagunitas Kronik Red Ale, Lil' Sumpin' Sumpin' Pale Wheat Ale, Lucky 13
Bells Oberon, Two Hearted
Palm Amber Ale
Flying Dog Double Dog American Pale Ale, Scratch Red, and I cannot recall the name of their Porter, but it is also good
Karmeliet Tripel (might be a bit too carbonated for many, but like any belgian, you let it warm to 45-50 degrees and it is amazing)

If you are noticing some trends, then good for you.  Quick break down as there are many more than the above and I simply am too lazy to list all:
Pretty much anything made by Flying Dog brewery = decent at minimum
Anything made by Ommegang = excellent
Anything made by Weyerbacher = excellent (Try the 15th anniversary Imperial Stout just released, it is yummy)
Anything made by Cigar City = sex
Anything made by Lagunitas = worth trying at minimum
Sprecher as far as I cannot tell as I have only had the Black Bavarian and the Triple and they are both unique and very good.
Pretty much any Belgian of any type is worth trying.  Wit, Dubbel, Tripel, quadrupel, Dark, strong, whatever, if it is belgian style or from belgium, it is pretty much a shoe-in for being good to excellent.

Also Karrde, I could be down for helping with beer reviews as god knows I drink enough of it and I love trying new.  My room mate's bar has more than 100 non-crap selections and I have had all of them at least twice.  =)

Re: Beer Thread - rumsfald - 08-16-2010

That is another good brewery.

Re: Beer Thread - at0m - 06-05-2011

Necro for great justice.

After sampling many many beers with Ain & Crystal while I was in Amsterdam, and on Ain's suggestion, I've decided to try Weisse (Wheat) beer anywhere I can find some.

Today, I had brunch at the Great Dane pub & brewing company in Wausau, WI, and had their Crop Circle Wheat. It was actually pretty tasty, although it made my French Toast taste funny. Not bad, just different, like lemons. It was pretty amusing, actually. And as it started to warm up, it started to get kinda bad (beer noob here), but it didn't have the nasty aftertaste that most american beers have, which meant I actually finished the whole imperial pint. One of the first times finishing a beer ever ;x and hopefully not the last. But DAMN was that shit strong. Was feeling a little fuzzy after drinking just the one beer, about the same after 1 & 1/2 of the two Rum & Coke's that I'd had there last night.

Keep it up, ain and crystal. If anyone can help convert at0m from a rum drinker to beer, it's you.

I just want to tell you both good luck. We're all counting on you. - Airplane

Oh, poor beer thread, it's been a slow 2012 for you.

Popped the top on this: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/11031/52423

I more or less agree with the reviews. It's tastylicious.

Re: Beer Thread - HeK - 12-16-2012

I think most people generally just post in the Drunk thread.....

Re: Beer Thread - zaneyard - 12-16-2012

I found out last night that I can buy czechvar in the stores in town. of course it's never going to be as good as it was on tap at the highlander, but this excites me greatly.

I brought back 4 bottles of it from the UK, they actually say 'Budweiser' on them.

yeah it has to be marketed as czechvar here in NA because of trademarks. I just wish I could find a bar with it on tap near town.

Re: Beer Thread - Didzo - 02-03-2013

I only recently started dabbling in beers more often and have found that I have a preference for stouts and porters and a very strong aversion to anything with fruity flavors.

I've tried Leffe Blonde for the first time tonight and I really enjoyed it. Nice warm, round flavor with a pleasant mouth feel. I do not regret buying a 6 pack.

I didn't regret buying a case of this...

back in December and I still have 6 of them. It cost $86.91 and I didn't hesitate to buy it because I knew it was one of the beers that would be gone within a day or 2, in fact I was talking with the main beer geek guy at that store this month and he said he had put it out the same day I bought it. It's 11.2 % APV and a 1 pint 6Fl.Oz. bottle and is sold as a case of 12.

Beer fact 1: A case of beer is not determined by how many bottles their are it's by how many ounces of beer are in a package.
Beer fact 2: What people consider a keg is really a 1/2 of a keg(full keg's to big to transport) and the reason you pay a deposit on the keg is so that you don't scrap the metal(which used to be a problem)

Laaaaaame.  I wonder if the art was somewhat inspired by some of Chris Kluwe's takedowns of homophobes during the election.  That can looks like a "Beautiful, unique sparkle pony." if I ever saw one XD

Re: Re: Beer Thread - at0m - 02-09-2013

Alewife has dogfish head chicory stout on tap. I've never had a dark beer this good. It's like drinking cold coffee and chocolate, in a really good way.
