All I did was retaliate. I wasn't going to sit there and let Mattfoo dog Caff like that. I won't say anything anymore though. It's not like they were listening to semi-intelligent pleas to stop..especially since they were calling me a "fucking moron" and "dick rider". King even mistook me for a furry because he was so caught up in himself. Whatever.

Don't give up on Destructoid because of a few assholes.  It's still a great site.

Exactly. Every community has it's resident dicks. There are still plenty of great people on Destructoid. Enough to keep me going at least.

I agree and disagree here, the problem with dtoid is that the assholes get too much freedom while a good banhammer session would fix the site post haste...
[/quote]

The problem is, not using the banhammer is part of what made me like Dtoid in the first place.

RockPaperShotgun has mostly taken over the time that I used to spend reading Dtoid, especially since I'm not a console gamer anyway.

Me too. It definitely has it's drawbacks, but free speech tends to allow more interesting conversations than not. The problem is finding them in an ocean of shitty look-at-me-aren't-I-cool Cblog posts

I was banned from there. :Smile It is pretty good though, at least the articles are. For all their talk about how their mighty banhammer makes for great comment threads, I've never thought their commenters had much worth saying. The other Gawker blogs are much better in that respect IMO.

There are a few good commenters there. I just like how simple their stuff is sometimes. The Destructoid website alone makes me feel sick to my stomach browsing it. Gawker does have some DAMN good blogs. I can read the Consumerist everyday and never get tired of it.

me too. unlike most sites where banning seems to be ENJOYED, they only ban when someone spams. That is enough for me. At school, at work, where you hang out, there will always be unlikable people. While the internet is a easy place to pick fights, it is also the easiest place to ignore them

Yea, out of all the posts on dtiod, rumsfalds always seemed to be the ones to be the "voice of reason" that most of the trolls couldn't argue against. While i supported cbre88x's comments, at the same time i don't think they were helping. Nothing against you cbre88x, believe me when i say that i wanted to make my first post on dtiod in over 3 months just to give them a piece of my mind. But i know that in the end posts like the ones you made only encourage them. Your reactions were the exact type they were looking for.

Personally i think that if we refuse to respond to any future attempts at trolling, (or use the banhammer if it happens on our forums or servers), it will probably stop. A troll that gets no response is a bored troll and hence will leave. That's my two cents at any rate.

Re: A quick word about the Dtoid melodrama, please read - KorJax - 06-28-2008

I'm not too sure exactly what went on here, but I think I know the gist of this:

Asshat internet-tough-guy troll tries to pull shit and cause drama?

Got through with dealing with dumbasses like that on a subforum of another forum I frequent just last week  :Smile

Several posts later I just said "Fuck this, this douche isn't worth my time" and stop posting in that particular sub-forum.  That sub-forum was doing nothing but turning into retarded troll-bait anyways.

There is a difference between banning someone because he disagrees with your point of view (something that is bad for a site) and banning someone because they're disruptive and generally ruining the site for everyone. Trolling and internet drama should have some control, be it that it's possible to moderate ones own cblog or to ban the people who are ruining the site...

For me, destructoid has becoming less and less enjoyable to read just because I don't want to wade through all the shit goes through there. It wasn't always this bad but it just got to a point where it wasnt worth it anymore. Sure I still browse the articles and read the more interesting ones (being fun columns by Jim or Chad or others) but I skip the cblogs as a whole because they've devolved in a mix of 1000 echoes of the same news, contest submission or the standard "look how great we are" posts.

The people in the dtoid community that made the site worth while for me are mostly here... and the other few I like I speak on IM or IRC... and even they rarely ever post a cblog anymore...

Yea, sometimes I forget that you can't solve things on the internet the same way you do in person. People undertake a different type of psychology on the internet..a new personality or mask. People feel invincible online because they can pretty much say whatever the fuck they want without suffering repercussions. For instance, I am a 6 foot 300 lb. guy..if we were having the discussion in flesh and blood Mattfoo would probably have thought twice about calling me a "dick rider". And if he had I probably would have chased him down and suffered charges of assault. It's a shame really..I never really had to deal with bullies/fucktards in flesh and blood.

EXACTLY.

The amount of times I find this feeling coming upon me could not be counted; I try to exercise some restraint and yes, often fail; but to see what lengths some people will go to online to be correct or to come out on top... I'm usually sickened and disgusted.

Its amazing what rational individuals will stoop to when upset on the internet.

As long as I've known Kotaku, they've had a bunch of tards in the comments sections.

I can't really say anything, since I just ended up on the servers one day and then joined BRB,U following joining WTF. Sounds like you guys have it harsh with recent issues with your "fellow" group or something, though. D: Well, um... Keep a stiff upper lip?

I'll be over here now. D:

They aren't really a "fellow group", per se. For the most part, they're where and why BRB, Uninstalling came about. But we're no more a part of them than Canada is a part of Britain. We separated peaceably.

The real tragic thing, I have to say, is seeing Destructoid - this thing that was for a months or two months or three months spectacular and wonderful - decay from the inside. It's not about the trolls or about the backlash or the conflicts or any of that shit: daily, I'm telling you, DAILY, I have to see a site and a community that I used to take a lot of pride in being dissolved from the inside out, and we're as much a part of that as anyone. If you keep talking about how not responding to them makes us superior, then you're just fighting them back in a different way. And these are people we used to not have any problem with, maybe even be close to.

Everybody used to take a lot of pride in Destructoid, whether we liked everything about it or not. You should have seen it's second birthday party. And now we're devolving into a finger-snapping Jets-and-Sharks street war over... something. I don't know what, exactly, anymore. The conflict has simply gone on so long nobody knows what it was about in the first place and it's just about retaliating towards retaliation towards retaliation, et-fucking-cetera.

And it's actually very shocking to see people on BRBU who used to be very involved in Destructoid treating it as flamebait; it's tough when you realize that most people's allegiances have changed.

Also, cocks.
