That fake pilsner taste in Miller Lite is disgusting.

In an emergency and I have no other choice but cheap american beers, I go for Rolling Rock or Yuengling.  If all that is available is miller and anheiser-busch varieties, I'd just as soon go to the booze in the well.

Most places carry guiness though, which is an acceptable substitute for Murphy's Irish Stout.

You're joking right?  Miller Lite isn't a great beer but its leaps and bounds better than PBR and Bud Light.  Its as if both of them were brewed in a trough at a baseball stadium.

No I'm not joking, I absolutely hate Miller Lite and I will not drink it. I have gone to keggers and left because they were Miller Lite, in search of a decent keg beer.  Miller Lite is absolutely disgusting, that fake pilsner taste makes my stomach turn.

I'd rather drink Old Milwaukee over Miller Lite.  Pretty much anything over Miller Lite, even Colt 45.

You really need to broaden your beer selection if you still think Miller Lite is good, haha.

Meh, whatever chief.

Re: Beer Thread - ainmosni - 05-25-2008

OK, I just have to know, WTF is lite beer? I see the term being used by amercans so often but I really don't know. Is it low on alcohol percentage? Calories? WTF IS IT??? It sounds like something I'd never drink.

Re: Beer Thread - ZoSo - 05-25-2008

It's low calories and less alcohol.

When you have to have bad beer it's better to have it lite - there's less bad taste to choke down.  I used to hate beer, only being able to drink lite beers for this reason.  When I started discovering imports and micro-brews my opinion of beer has changed dramatically.  I am typing this while drinking a left over peg leg.

Also lucky 13 was had at our friday night beer, food and bsg party.  I didn't get to try any though it got drank too quick, but it was described as very tasty.

Re: Beer Thread - ScottyGrayskull - 05-25-2008

Hmmm... beer...

For domestic beer, I mostly drink Alexander Keith's and Alpine. They're okay... nothing great... but just about every bar serves them so it's a good fall back choice. If they serve it however a good Canadian alternative is Picaroon's... especially some of their seasonals. I've had many good nights because of their Winter Warmer brand.

Imports... lots of different kinds depending on where I am. At bars usually Guiness (the meal that tastes like a beer!) or Harp. If I go to the liquor store I usually get Tuborg (maybe because of my Danish roots Tongue). I used to get Boddingtons a lot, but the liquor board in my province stopped selling it. Sad

It's my #1 Beer currently. +1!

Keith's is usually my second beer of choice, but true story, Keith's isn't a pale ale at all, they just market it to be. As for the Boddington's I can still get it here in Hamilton, so some one is blowing smoke up your ass.

Fruit beers done right are quite nice, I was having an nice Apple Pilsner a few weeks ago and it was very light on the palette, but the kind of beer you could drink a few while being social and not lose your grace.

<3 Beer threads, just more chances to sample other beers you didn't know about.

I don't live in Ontario. I live in New Brunswick, and NB Liquor stopped selling it a few years ago. Sad

I assume it just wasn't selling enough for the cost. I can get them to bring it in on special order, but even within Canada there's minimum amounts I have to buy before they'll do it, which from what I remember really isn't worth it unless you get a bunch of people together, especially for beer. Whenever I go to Ontario I usually pick up a flat at the Beer Store, though I suppose it's worth checking if PEI or Nova Scotia sell it since they're a lot closer.

I still think it's funny that Keith's is considered "imported" in Ontario. At least it was last time I drank there. ^_^

Over here we just call it a "Black and Tan".  Didn't know it had another name to it

Re: Beer Thread - Surf314 - 05-26-2008

One of the greatest things about having the beer + BSG parties at my place is sampling the left overs.

This Kirin Ichiban is tasty.  Very light, probably more of a hops than wheat taste.  I'm no beer expert though.

Re: Beer Thread - [fr31ns]Karrde - 05-27-2008

Oooooh, good thread.  Depends on where you are really.  My two fav brands are summit (local here in Minneapolis but gets shipped out all over) and New Belgium (out of colorado I think).  I tend to favor pales and darker ales.  Browns are good too (Newcastle, esp).  Really for me, the hoppier, the better.  But I like a bit of everything depending on my mood.

Re: Beer Thread - copulatingduck - 05-27-2008

I don't have a favorite. I'm usually too cheap to buy anything but shit, but I'm slowly changing my ways. Hopefully this thread will help.

Re: Beer Thread - Vidaroke - 05-27-2008

I love local brews... im from ohio and there is an amazing brewery in cleveland... Great Lakes Brewery... a great beer almost with everything they do... I also like a few bigger names... big into labatt Blue.. Guniess, smithwicks, bass and sam adams all great

Re: Beer Thread - [fr31ns]Karrde - 05-27-2008

Oh and a note about black & tans.  Reccomend you don't call it that if you're in Ireland/and Irish bar where real Irish ppl might be.  Not a good term.  We usually call it a half and half here in minnesota.
