Got assigned The Scarlet Letter for English today. Hopefully it doesn't suck.

Spoiler it does

I have to go read two chapters now. God I hate AP English. Honors kids got to read Hitchhikers Guide for summer reading. Lucky bastards.

It wouldn't be terrible if it didn't age so terribly. Well the core story is pretty timeless but it's about as easy to identify with as Dickens.

Reading the Federalist Papers by Alexander Hamilton. This dude is a genius.

Booklist for my English course I'm taking to finish off literature/fine arts requirement:

Frankenstein
Dracula
Bluest Eye
Heart of Darkness
The Maltese Falcon
Assorted Sherlock Holmes

Somehow, I got through four years of high school without reading any of these (I thought Heart of Darkness was practically required everywhere). Anyone know if Toni Morrison is as bad as I'm hearing?

I have read most of those for school. Sadly I found Frankenstein dry; however I loved Heart of Darkness. It's a bit... dense I guess for some, but I loved it.

As for Sherlock Holmes, I have several volumes of them and love them to bits.

What an interesting reading schedule...

Speaking of Sherlock Holmes if anyone is a fan you should dl the british show. It's an amazing update. Only 3 episodes though.

Frankenstein wasn't too bad. I liked how it was fairly short for a classic. Dracula was cool 'cause of Hellsing.

Heart of Darkness I liked, pretty interesting.

Sherlock Holmes was always amazing. Wanted to be a detective when I grew up as a child because of him.
Then I realized that Detectives don't get to solve crimes like that, or spend their time in a film noir setting. Needless to say, I was dissapoint.

Heart of Darkness is fantastic.  Be sure to watch Apocalypse Now after you finish it, the two are very intertwined.

As for Toni Morrison, I had to read Song of Solomon for one of my classes last year, and honestly, it wasn't that bad.  It wasn't amazing per se, but there it did handle some interesting topics, both on the matter of black society and the general human condition.  As it is, I'd rather read something by her than say... Wuthering Heights.

Oh yeah, I actually came here to say something.  I started reading the Illuminatus! trilogy yesterday.  It's kind of difficult to follow, it changes person and narration point rather quickly and without warning, but once you get used to it, it's really an interesting read.  It's humorous in quite a few bits as well.

Got the last book in Bill Gibsons newest trilogy last night. Hardcover for only $8.

Just finished "Never After" by Rebecca Lickiss. It was actually a quite cute mix-up and re-do of many fairy tales.

Next is "Foxmask" by Juliet Marillier.
