You have to make a new map, but it has a chance of either being summer or winter. Currently no changing seasons though.
Edit:
Gotta love the minecraft forums. Someone made a program to add snow to your current map. I'd recommend backing up your save first though.

yeah those aren't in yet, but you can actually find them sometimes. They're not really floating, theyre massive overhangs connected to the ground with very small towers and mountains

It was. Right now the terrain is set to infinitely generate (Alpha/Ex-Infdev) as you explore. The old limited terrain generating system (Ex-Indev) was taken out a while ago but should soon be implemented back into the current game as an alternative to the infinite maps.

I'm hoping in the future, he would make the skybox a bit higher. Right now, I mean sure, mountains are pretty cool, but they're really limited. I want to have islands and buildings way in the sky above the clouds. (And not just the 20 or so units we have right now).
Anyways, I'm not sure who would really be interested in a classic creative multiplayer right now though. There's so much new stuff in Alpha that going back to classic would be kinda dull. I'm still wondering whether or not to do creative or survival though. Guess it really depends on how to implement survival into multiplayer. Unless it's pretty borked or limiting, I'll probably go with that though.
