Best part is, this laptop is a 2.4GHz Core2Duo with 4GB RAM. And it can't run Minecraft smoothly at all.

Minecraft.

2.4Ghz Dual Core.

What the fuck.

What sort of video card is it running? In my experience that makes more of a difference with Minecraft, oddly enough, than the proc or RAM.

Unfortunately it's an Integrated Intel.  Sad

The part that kills me though?

It can run TF2 at like 25-300FPS 1280x800 with an FPS config.

Stupid OpenGL =(((

Putting down my dog tomorrow. She is 16 years old. I got her when I was 4. Gonna miss her.

I had to do the same thing.

Just make sure you get the ashes.

Welcome to my life for the last three weeks. This is my last week with these roommates before I switch rooms for the regular school year.
They literally refuse to take out the trash. And my full-Vietnamese by blood, full-time Oregonian (i.e. born in the states) has a stupid-thick accent, mumbles, speaks in monotone, and is basically impossible to understand. He turned into a real dick to me this past week for some reason.

He's really good at League of Legends but refuses to play  with me because I don't have the Asian skills.

Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - cbre88x - 09-13-2011

had an english class, traded class for a different psychology class I wanted on the last day to drop. first day in class today:

Me-"So, today was my first day in class..where can I get a syllabus"
Prof-(dickish voice)"Go buy this booklet and all the info is there..but I can tell when exactly you added the class..you should just come to class on time"
Me-"this is my first day..I just added this class"
Prof-(while staring at his computer monitor)"ok..well we've already had two tests..you'll have to go talk to another student about what you missed"
Me-"Is there any way I can make them up?"
Prof- "Nope"
Me-"And the work"
Prof-(Not paying attention at this point)

Fifteen minutes later I am staring at the registration screen and me dropping this class. I've been here for way too long to tolerate that bullshit.

I'd go speak to the dept head in person first, but that's me.

All the sudden I'm untouchable for interviews. I really don't understand, I'm in the top 15% and got picked to interview with some good firms the first week. Now I get denied for everything. On campus interviews suck.

Ordered an HDMI splitter for PS3/360 for our TV.

It's got one input and two outputs.

That's because you ordered a splitter and not a switch.

I'm gonna carpet bomb email this weekend. I was too pissed off yesterday and I'm too busy in the next two days to write a well spoken and thought out email.

[/quote]I cannot overemphasize how much more impact speaking to someone in person has, over sending an email.

Agreed.

Yep, fuck email.

Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - Evil Cheese - 09-14-2011

Oh where do I begin? Well without giving too much away, I work for a government contractor. I work for a group that hosts servers and services for other projects. My boss (PM) is overly ambitious about hosting new services without the resources to adequately do so. That means the current resources (employees) get stretched extremely thin to accommodate the needs of whatever new client he's after.

One of our higher profile clients is unhappy with the service we're providing. Initially our responsibility to said client was to monitor SNMP traps sent by telecommunication equipment. That was it. Easy enough right? Well in an attempt to make the client happy since providing that simple service is actually quite troublesome, we've slowly been creeping into more of a tier 1 first response/troubleshooting service. Since I'm one of the three people who was actually trained on the equipment (one was a PM who moved on to a different project and the other who is more senior than me has "wiped his hands" of it, not that I can blame him) that means I'm often taking trips to the client site. While I may know generally how all equipment works with each other, I don't have much practical knowledge with it. We're quick to escalate to the equipment manufacturer who will send out technicians.

That by itself isn't too bad. You also have to factor in that the telcom equipment is rather old. So old in fact that the manufacturer doesn't publicly support it. We can only passively monitor via SNMP traps because if we try active monitoring it crashes some of the equipment. The parts of the equipment responsible for monitoring also aren't very reliable as they will randomly stop sending SNMP information without warning and neither my company or the manufacturer has any idea what causes this. We've implemented every band-aid solution we could think of to try to circumvent these issues, but the monitoring is still unreliable and that makes the client unhappy. While there are plans to upgrade the equipment, it's one of those billion dollar deals that would take a year or so to implement and currently resides in contract limbo.

Well my boss's bad habits have finally come back to bite him in the ass. The client recently gave us an extremely poor rating in a customer survey, despite my boss's efforts to make the client "happy" via scope creep, and now the top brass has their eye on us. My boss's response is now to throw resources at the client whenever he blinks funny. So without thought of efficiency or actual productiveness I get scheduled to babysit the equipment at the client site while an irate man makes passive-aggressive conversation at me until the manufacturer's technicians can come out.

If I can make it the next two weeks without losing my sanity, I'll be impressed.

Well, the clarity with which you described your FML seems to indicate that you've still got a good grip on your sanity! And the level of detail you used to explain your work leads me to think you enjoy what you do, so all I can really say is hope it goes well and that one day this client will just be another story to share.
