Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - TOH - 03-06-2012

Probably the most stressful day at work I've had in many months...I know, I know, some people will think "Be glad you have a job at all," and I'm thankful for that, but geez, today's taken a huge emotional toll...and it's not even over yet. I wish I didn't feel so taken for granted all the time. So much on my shoulders, and I can't share the load.

A great article I once tripped over. The mentality, or at the very least certain aspects of it, have served me well over the years.

Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - KarthXLR - 03-06-2012

I just got a notice that I was dropped a class due to not being active on a website we use between classes. I go to check that out to find I've been dropped from all classes due to not paying for my tuition. Now, here's where I get confused. I'm enrolled on a scholarship that didn't even activate until very late into the semester in the fall, so I assumed the same would apply here. I was not told when it would activate this semester. So I start checking all my email and notification services to see when I received some sort of warning that I would be dropped from classes due to nonpayment. But as it turns out, I never got any sort of notification. So I called Admissions to see what had gone wrong, and they transferred me to the tech department, who transferred me to the cashier office, who told me I received an email march 1st. So I checked, only to see such an email didn't exist. So, due to their screw-up I now need signatures from all my professor's so I can pay the difference so I can re-enroll in classes I'm already attending.

Yay.

Make sure they have the right address (they should if they're emailing your school address).

Also, welcome to college. You have to fucking fight them every second you're there to prove you actually want your degree. At least that was my experience.

Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - zaneyard - 03-06-2012

So I got approval to leave work early today so I can go to the walk in clinic. I guess I feel better that I don't have to wait all week to get checked out.

Gave myself a 120V shock today. Luckily I don't think I was grounded; wearing heavy shoes and sitting in a chair. Still, my arms are still pretty tingly (and twitchy).

I really wish more colleges would recognize that they're providing a service/product that you, the consumer, are purchasing. And act accordingly.

[/quote]I had to take a seminar "class" my freshman year to qualify for the scholarship that was taught by a professor in the business department.  There was a point where he tried to argue that students weren't actually paying for a service, but were actually a product being "manufactured" by universities for the needs of society.

My school is hilarious.  They act like they will worship you if you apply and all this great stuff happens.  But then as soon as your second week of school you become 2nd class citizens under the almighty Prospective Students.  Its ridiculous.

Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - A. Crow - 03-07-2012

From the "no good deed goes unpunished" category; while volunteering to clean up debris from a tornado in a county about an hour away, I managed to step on a board with two nails, both of which went through my boot and into my foot.  It stung a bit, bled into my sock a bit, but actually hurt much less than I figured it would, so I worked for another 3 hours and planned to go to the VA hospital later in the evening just to have it checked out.

Fast forward to the ride home where I am no longer mobile on the aforementioned foot, yeah, I didn't wait until later in the evening to go to the hospital.  I'm surprised it swelled up like it did.

Couch surfing for the next 3 days!
