There's inputs for keyboard and controller controls but neither recognize my controller, it looks like I have to use an xbox controller because games for windows sucks horrible dick.

Have you tried Xpadder or Joy2key :0?
thanks, I'll look into that later. I'm still salty I'll have to use another program simultaneously due to lazy programmers.

Edit: used Joy2key and the button inputs worked but the directional pad did not. I tried assigning it to the arrow keys but the game still only recognizes inputs from the arrows on the keyboard, not the pad.

Try Xpadder.  It works amazingly, but I'd recommend just downloading it on principle.  It may be a good program, but the website allows no way to try the software before paying, and there is no refund policy.

Looks like the Yahoo security breach did affect me after all, the same low-security username & password was used on eBay and someone tried to get into my account. Was unable to make any purchases (since my Paypal info is completely different) but disconcerting nontheless. I'll have to do an accounting and find out what other legacy accounts use that same password (since I used to be lazy. Well I still am, honestly, but I'm a little better about segregating them now than I used to be)

Go into prefences and enable POV switches. Set those to the arrow keys. By default JoyToKey only shows the analog stick directions, and the fightpad doesn't have one.

I flicked a switch on the back of the controller that makes the d-pad give out the left stick signal and it's working now.

I've been having a tougher time keeping that perpetual feeling of drowning in a fog at a distance these past few days.

Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - Live-Free-Or-Pie - 07-19-2012

Well fuck, facing a bit of a emotionally taxing dilemma here. (Please forgive a small amount of obfuscation to prevent this from getting discovered by unsavory parties, I feel safe here and I trust that none of you will report on my apostasy)

I just wanna free-form whine/vent for myself, so please bear with me. Smile

So, I work with a well-known youth service organization that has recently decided that expelling members based on their faith tradition / sexual orientation is still a-OK. I'm involved heavily at a local level and I have a high up volunteer position of responsibility in the organization (hence the obfuscation)

I happen to be very close with this organization, I grew up with it in my local area and I hold a potentially influential position of leadership in my local area (not in the national organization).

On one hand (Rational):

The actions they are taking are prejudicial and morally wrong by any objective standard. This policy has no grounding in program materials (none.) and sits against even their own standards and as of right now, there is not much I can do to alter or affect this policy from where I sit at this time. My personal time is valuable to me and I don't want to spend it condoning prejudice. The authority that has made these rules has the say even if their stance is demonstrably hypocritical. Falling on my sword wouldn't help the cause, but it might help me.

On the other hand (Rational):

The views and actions are dictated by a small group of individuals. I feel that know the program of this organization better than most and that the program does not teach or condone bigotry (quite the opposite actually). I am equipped with the experience to put on this program in a way that does not condone or teach this prejudice and that way that I put on the program it would be compatible with and not subversive to the program’s stated directives and the mission of the program.

On that one hand again (Emotional):

I feel betrayed and shattered. The organization which I derive an objectively great set of morals from, which I sacrificed my time and energy for, which I have borne the banner for on several occasions is just so maddeningly audacious in their hypocrisy.
This is an organization that showed up at my father's funeral to pay their respects an an intensely respectful and tasteful way.
This is an organization I have willfully (keyword there, I never did this against my will) participated in since I was a kid up until now and has helped shape me into who I am today. the incentive to do this is not to get some afterlife reward, it's just to be a good person and do the best with the time you have alive. It encourages people to be great people for the sake of being great people despise the ass-backwardness of the few at the top. I really want to hope they they're going to pull their heads out of their asses at some point, and I'd be happy to do it for them if I had the shot. I would like to demonstrate how I feel, but I get the (perhaps irrational?) feeling that I'll have my ass kicked out and then I can't do any good. This organization is not performing up to my personal standards and I feel like I should give them the old "Screw you guys, I'm going home" and quit with my dignity and satisfaction intact.

On that other hand again (Emotional):

The group of kids I work with is great, I want to see them succeed. I feel a little like I don't want to let them down even though that not exactly a personally beneficial feeling to have. My position is meaningful to me and it puts a set of skills that I have cultivated into good use  teaching kids great things and not teaching them prejudicial things. I have tangible things I can bring to this organization and if I leave, then those potential contributions never see the light of day. I feel like there are very few places in (American) society where a single white male can have a positive influence on kids without scaring the shit out of them by telling them that they're going to hell if they don't do what I say. I think have a shot at fixing this, but it's a long one. I can do good with the time I put in, there is tangible worth to the time I put in and I really don't want to lose that. I don't.

You feel strongly about this issue and are attached to the organization as well, and I have no doubt that there are many others equally passionate about this issue as well within the organization. I'm sure that you (with the support of a large number of like-minded members) can focus your disappointment regarding hypocritical policies and bring them to the top. If the top can't listen to the people who are the heart of the organization, then it's their loss if they lose you. But don't give up on something you care about this much until you have done everything you can to try and change it.

Edit: Or do zane's tried and true method of bringing about progress.

Didzo is right. Therein lies another dilemma, I suppose I have one shot at expressing and I would need to get the timing and the message and the target right make it count. I'm not equipped to do that now, I'd have to bide time to get the opportunity.

Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - Saxxy - 07-20-2012

yeah the national and regional BSA leaders are pretty much dipshits.  Except the Chicago Area Council, which are fucktards.

Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - at0m - 07-20-2012

The thing to keep in mind is that they're also beholden to their sponsors. The largest single donor/host of BSA troops is the LDS church (aka Mormons) who have a hardline attitude when it comes to such things, and have publicly stated that they'll pull funding and eject all of the hosted troops if the BSA doesn't adopt similarly hardline policies. And that's just a single sponsor, that hosts something between a quarter and half of the troops nationwide.

I don't agree with the policies, but I understand a large reason behind why they were put in place (survival, basically).

I never really took the religious portion of being in the BSA to heart (beyond respecting others' for their beliefs, and that they can coexist so long as everyone respects one another), but their entire actual outward message is positive, so I personally have a hard time giving them much flak for it. I'd rather poo-poo the outside organizations and individuals that are forcing those kinds of policies to be put in place, than fault the organization for a keen sense of self-preservation.

This coming from someone who also had the BSA be a huge moral/ethical force while growing up (arguably one of the only forces, since I never attended church on a regular basis), who also had a father die and had the BSA show up to his funeral to thank him for his contributions. He'd been Scoutmaster for ages of that troop, and both my brother and I earned our Eagles there, and to have them show up and pay their respects without provocation from us meant a lot to me personally.

Of course, Pie might not be talking about the BSA, but still.

Yep, the national org is pretty much controlled by the mormons due to money, I'm not sure what the funding percentage is, but I think its a super-majority.

Local level stuff can be very diverse, LBGT friendly, etc. Just depends highly on the group you are involved with. Atom and I both are eagles from the same troop and Id say looking back I never got any of the sense that you are getting out of it and only learned about a lot of it later on.

I think a lot of the more inclusive oriented groups have chosen to try to do what they can despite the ass-backwardness of the national org. Either you stick with it and try to make some difference, or you let it die entirely, at least, thats how I saw things play out on the national level, either you exclude certain people, or you cease to exist entirely. They went along with it in order to try to at least have some positive impact even at the expense of looking like bigots.

Though that last bit may be more wishful thinking on my part.

Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - rumsfald - 07-20-2012

A lot of courageous men and women didn't quit the US armed forces just because of boneheaded discriminatory policies. They believed the ultimate mission of the organization was greater than the shortsighted bigotry of a few asshatted rules.

Just because the higher ups act like asshats doesn't mean that you need to repeat that example or enforce it at the levels of authority below you. You can effectively work for change from within if you know when and where to best oppose their immoral stance.

There's a time and a place for a righteous resignation-on-principle. Make sure you have maximum exposure value before playing that card.

This is why I don't always put my two cents in.  I'm either verbose or overly blunt and I know Rummy will just come behind me and obliterate any comment with terse truthiness.

Flattering, but not remotely true. If I wanted to obliterate, I'd show the hypocrisy with their own words.

This policy is not Trustworthy. It suggests that people can only depend on scouts if their personal beliefs are the same as the financial supporters of the national organization.

This policy is not Loyal to the family, freinds, leaders, school, or nation if they happen to have teh gay.

This policy is not Helpful, as it willfully does not care about some people.

This policy is not Friendly. It is not a friend to all. It does not offer friendship to people of all races and nations, because it does not respect them even if their beliefs and customs are different from his own.

This policy is not Courteous. It is not polite to everyone regardless of age or position. It's also not good manners, and does nothing to help marginalized groups get along.

This policy is not Kind. It exercised force through exclusion, and is in no ways gentle. It does not treat others as the scout wants to be treated. Without good reason, it harms other living beings.

This policy is not Obedient. This policy increasingly at odds with the laws of communities across the country that reject discrimination and exclusion.

This policy is not Cheerful. It seeks to distance one person from another, and does little to make others happy.

This policy is not Thrifty. It is alienating current, past, and future scouts, which threatens the future and goodwill of the entire organization for the narrowminded religious goals of the few. This is not a careful use of time and property.

This policy is not Brave. The Phobia in homophobia is the opposite of brave. Look it up.

This policy is not Clean. The highest standard is the golden rule, of which this policy does not abide. Also, some of my best gay friends are totally OCD about cleaning.

This policy is not Reverent. It does not respect the beliefs of others.

I'm an eagle too but I'm not going to go returning my badge.  I earned my rank from BSA Troop 918 in Fairfax, Virginia, not from the head offices of BSA.  I proved myself to people who truly followed the prinicples of the Oath and Law and did not condone bigotry of any kind.

Thats what I think of whenever I see my eagle keychain on my keys.

I know this comment doesn't help out at all but I wanted to say it.
