Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - KarthXLR - 04-07-2013

Seriously, fuck my producers. I'm already juggling two other jobs in-addition to my UPM shit so I really could do without this stress. Goddamn this whole fucking day. Yesterday wasn't much better, but jesus christ what the fuck happened today?

LONG STORY IMMINENT, TL;DR AT THE BOTTOM

First off, some backstory: Yesterday we had three incidents on our set. Two pieces of equipment were broken and our actress suffered a very minor injury. We have a form we need to fill out to the school for that. So I did. I have all the forms in our production notebook, which stays with me. By the end of the night, we are two hours behind and I end up having to stay another hour because nobody would help art team get their set unloaded off our equipment truck. Luckily, my call time isn't until 11:00 AM and the location is close, so I have plenty of time to sleep, even after midnight.

Fast forward to this morning. I get a plentiful sleep with a good feeling that today will go by smoothly; we're shooting mostly green-screen today.

Boy was I fucking wrong.

In the middle of making breakfast (unshowered, not dressed for the day) I get a call from one of my producers telling me they need an incident report form on the set. The call essentially went like this. I ask if something happened, and he dodged the question, telling me "it doesn't matter" and just to get there. I'm already upset at my producers, so I decide I eat my breakfast and get going.  I finish my breakfast and he calls again. "Ok, you need to stop doing your other shit and get here now." I tell him I'm getting ready (and I am, no bullshit, unshowered and everything) and that I'll be there as soon as possible. On my way out the door I get another call from the other producer asking where I was. I tell them I'm leaving right now. She says, "...there's been an accident, we've called an ambulance"

"Oh shit" I think out loud. Now my ass is in-gear. "What happened?" I ask.  She tells me that she can't tell anything right now. I tell her I'll be about 5-10 minutes depending on traffic.

I get there, only to get chewed out by them for not leaving as soon as I got the first phone call. Now, keep in mind, I didn't even know there was a medical emergency until the third call. Also note that I never delayed myself aside from eating a short breakfast (two fried eggs). I ask them why they didn't relay the information to me, you know, the first time. They blew me off, telling me "they weren't going to answer these questions right now". I tell them that that should been communicated first thing, and I should've been let-in on what was happening. To make a pointless argument short, she told me that I should do whatever the producers tell me to, no questions asked. Because she isn't backing down and keeps giving me shit, I just say "Alright" and head to the second set. At this point it's already past my call time, so I can't work on my editing project like I had planned to. Regardless, I slap a smile on my face on the second set and answer any questions our second crew has about our medical emergency.

Fast forward again, to later in the day. The two producers pull our Executive Producer(also our professor) aside and grab me to have a "talk". They tell him that I've been uncooperative and that I ask too many questions. They also tell him I'm too excitable and I'm causing problems on-set. On being excitable, this much is true. Anyone who knows me knows that stuff is pretty much hard-wired into my system, probably don't have much in my power to change that. But the next part is what got me angry: They tell me I should stopped everything I was doing after the first call.

At this point I stop letting them walk all over me and tell the professor that I wasn't informed it was a medical emergency until the 3rd call. The first producer interrupts me and says "I will not argue with you about if I said it or not, because I did". He argues I need to listen better. I argue he needs to communicate better instead just assuming I got that. In a turn of events, the professor takes my side and vouches for me. He tells me that he's observed me on set and claims that I wouldn't be the type of guy to blow off an emergency like that. The intervention goes on for a bit until he asks me if I have anything to add. And I do. I had noticed prior to today, they had been denying information to certain people on set for no apparent reason, other than the fact they didn't think they were important enough I would guess. So I bring it up. "Why didn't you let me know what was happening?" The professor takes my side again, citing that they really should've let me know what was going on instead of chewing me out for not being 100% obedient. He further asks what reason they had not to disclose this to me. "We didn't want to let him know because it could've caused him to drive recklessly and increase the chance of an accident."

What the fuck? "That's pretty presumptuous of you," I add. The professor takes my side once more, telling them there was no reason not to tell me and that they had no way to prove it could've effected my driving ability.

We "hug" it out. The first producer calms down and stops being elitist, we are cool for the rest of the day. The other one I never want to work with again. If I am ever on set with her again, I will avoid her at all costs. Already she had been baby-talking me, as if she thought I was stupid or something. When I told her the way she was speaking to me bugged me, she ignored it completely and continued to treat me like some sort of incompetent idiot despite the fact I'm juggling 3 jobs.

JUST
[Image: 3ptUCC2.jpg]
FUCK

TL;DR: Got bitched out for not getting a form (that should've been on the set anyways) out to medical emergency on set (which I wasn't supposed to be at) despite them not letting me know about said emergency until I was already leaving. They tried to get a professor on their side to show that I was at fault but instead wasted everybody's time and only proved that they were in the wrong in the end. Also we wrapped an hour late.

Drop a dime to OSHA. They love to sniff out operations that are breaking safety rules. I bet they'd be interested in hearing about broken equipment and two injuries in two days

Karf, you're in Arizona. You are literally surrounded by morons. And I'm sorry about that. Keep up your diligent work ethic, because that's all that matters. The professor can clearly see that you aren't a fuckup.
