To me, having style is an ability to find clothes that compliment your body and each other well with consideration for your own aesthetic preferences.

I like HeK in his t-shirts and Columbia pants. Like him out of them, too.

Looking aesthetically pleasing or "fashionable" is not a bad thing and won't hurt your chances with the ladies either. I find that if I like what I'm wearing, it also helps boost self confidence.
Wear clothes that you like. A tshirt and jeans can actually look great if they both fit well and don't have weird mysterious stains lol. I like to lean towards dark jeans rather than lighter shades because they appear more "clean" and "sharp". Well, as sharp as a pair of jeans can get.

You can check out http://lookbook.nu/ (filter by gender or something if you aren't into dresses) for inspirations and ideas. I know tumblr also has a lot of mens fashion stuff. You don't have to copy entire outfits, just pick and choose the pieces you like and get a general idea of what looks good with what. Coordination is important with clothes.

well who doesn't?

also, my style hasn't changed since high school. American Eagle jeans and tshirts/sweatshirts. Possibly a long sleeve tshirt with the sleeves rolled up. Hell, I have a pair of Doc Martens I bought my freshman year of high school that I still wear on occasion.

Reading abstract fashion advice is like picking one of 3 sizes off the rack which is like reading webmd instead of seeing a professional.

Effective fashion advice can only come from asking other people how your body looks in that outfit.

Where's Kor?

Have we really had 3 pages of this? Wow.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, and doubly so for being so encouraging. I have realized more recently that my wardrobe has been lacking and have been attempting to expand it. So far I think I've done pretty well, getting more long sleeve shirts and actually making sure the cut/size fits me properly. I'm still looking for new stuff though, especially if I'm hoping to get thinner or a bit more fit. I'll definitely look into some fashion stuff, but I personally lean on the "just get properly fitting clothes" philosophy.

As for the flirting thing, I have no idea. I don't recall SPM ever being around me when I've tried to flirt with someone , but with how long we roomed together, who knows(PM me if you had a particular memory in mind). I'm open to suggestions as there are a LOT of cute girls at this school and many more parties to be had. Due to my inexperience in the area, I can't say I'd be unwilling to try new things.

Just talk to people a lot so you are more confident. Everything else will come naturally.

Re: The "Fuck my life" thread - StolenToast - 01-28-2014

It starts with the pants, man.  I ditched my jeans and found my style and now I'm cool cuz I feel cool.  I believe this pants-off technique can work for anyone.

14 hour work/class days hurt. Luckily, the classes are easy and they're not on every day.

Crow Fashion Advice:  I have quit wearing clothes outside of work... Went to taco bell drive through in my bathrobe the other day

I will work "no-pants" into my daily routine.

My decision to eat on a daily basis is often a regular battle in which I decide if the hunger outweighs my desire to avoid wearing pants.

Holy shit, miss 24 hours, miss a lot.

While I can go into a bit more depth, I have to stop something first and foremost:

No. Burn immediately.

Whatever your choice, always wear structured clothing. No structure = no fit.

If you want to freshen up a wardrobe, don't change your core style. If you're a jeans/tshirt guy there's options. If you're a chinos/button-up guy, there's options. If you're a Tux-after-6-because-we're-not-farmers guy, there's options. But always work from within that core, so when you want to try a new shirt style, or pant style, or even accessories, you can do so from a place of familiarity/comfort. When you're out clothing shopping, do what people have forgotten: Shop. If you spend 45 minutes trying on half a store and buying nothing, you're doing it right.(Although, respect your CSR's, fold/hanger that shit) Don't fold to pressure from sales folks, they'll give you an answer, but it might not be an honest one. Don't shop with friends either, you might get honest support, but you'll be doing it through their perspective, and might miss something interesting because you don't want the peanut gallery commenting.

I know the conversation turned toward the fit/comfort argument, which I support, but also be aware that there's a few places that are easily overlooked that deeply affect the silhouette :

Shirts:Hem length on shirt bodies(over long does more than bunch, it changes the drape off your shoulders/chest/gut) - shoulder/arm pit seam ratio(think stovepipe sleeves or never-skips-arm-day sleeves) - shoulder/neck/back taper(enough space to flex the trapz)

Pants: First and foremost, learn how to wear pants proper: get them off your hips and wear them around your waist. Waist start from just under your belly-button and go all the way around. That means it's above the hip at the sides, and just approaching the small of your back. Wearing pants as such will let the seams define the silhouette, rather than your hips/seat. Crotch(No bad jokes here, Crotch measurement defines the hip fit, both front/back and the way it falls off your seat) - Pockets always change the fit, likewise the button/velcro/whatever is holding it together(the more you use it the worse the fit will get as the pant ages with washing/use) - Pant hems matter. Proper length on the hem makes the pant sway correctly, and proper hem weight makes the pant stay on top of your shoe/not flop when walking.

That's all I have time for at the moment I have a meeting I'm late for now. I'm always available for in depth pointers. Don't be afraid to ask, I used to do this for a living.

Jordan. And I'm sorry but it was fucking hilarious. Granted, I'm no expert on flirting or pick-up technique, but if anything I'd say you're just very obvious, try to hard to be suave. And while I'm certainly no expert, I have looked a lot into the subject. Honestly I gave up the idea of flirting a long time ago in lieu of just being really fucking confident in public. And it's working much better so far.
