That's a great way to start them...

Re: Olympics - Spore - 02-12-2010

That's pretty sad news to hear. The comments where people say "I hope he recovers fully" are pretty funny though.

Well, because they updated the news story. No one knew his condition until a few hours later.

I retract my previous statement, but without this context would still find it funny.

Re: Olympics - Odin - 02-13-2010

Three deaths today, the Georgian, the Canadian Anthem, and my national pride.

Worst opening ceremony ever.

Pfft...  What is this Russia business?  Get off my lawn.  I'm not happy with a couple of the picks (and ommisions) for Team Canada, but there's no chance I'm cheering for any other country...

2/3 is right.  That rendition of the anthem was fuckin' tripe.  I actually didn't mind the opening ceremony that much, to be honest.  I mean, it had it's "meh" moments, but to be honest, the maritimes stuff was awesome to me.  I remember Ashlet MacIssac being a little, skinny bastard...  Now he looks like an angry, kilted farmer that could kick my ass.  Moon-fidler?  Epic, sorry.  Dancing lumberjacks and tapping gutter-punks.  It was bat-shit insane, and I loved most of that segment.

High-five for the part with the whales too.

Re: Olympics - Odin - 02-13-2010

K whales were only good part.

Also what the hell do angry, tattooed, leather wearing, spiked hair, tapdancing scotsmen have to do with Canada?  I know, fiddling, maritimes, Irish/Scottish heritage and culture, but really.  The least they coulda done was put them in normal clothing, not make them look like angry Scots who had just left a rave or something.

Really bizzare segment imo.

Re: Olympics - Coppanuva - 02-13-2010

So why was there no Lumberjack Song ala Monty Python (I know they were British but the song was sung by Canadian Mounties...)?

Re: Olympics - exanimo2 - 02-13-2010

Let's be honest, Beijing 2008's opening ceremony dwarfs anything else.  I feel bad for any city that has to follow that act.... ever.
