Honestly it wasn't that dumb except for trying to use the HP install disk, you do know that they use custom versions of windows to fit their components right?

Hell, it wasn't even an install disk at all, as I said earlier HP (and other computer companies) don't include installation discs of vista on computers with vista pre-installed. It was a recovery disc Microsoft provides for free on the internet that includes a repair option.

It didn't work.

The reason they don't provide discs any more is because they provide the software needed to generate your own if you do it from a fresh laptop. You're fucked otherwise, gotta download all the drivers from scratch.

transplanting your old HDD into a new computer and thinking it would work was what got me all hot n bothered.
