PAX EAST - copulatingduck - 03-14-2010

Who's going? I don't promise to meet up with anyone (I have a lot of other business in beantown at the time, namely recuperation and drinking, not necessarily in that order),  but nevertheless I figured a thread for those attending to at least attempt to arrange meetups would be nice. I have no idea what particulars would be worth mentioning besides dates attending and maybe hotels residing. I'll be in Boston from the 16th (made a point of making it for St Patrick's Day) through the 4th, will probably spend most of my time drunkenly wandering between couches of close friends in Boston, hopefully spending as little time online as possible. May or may not participate in the TF2 lan (assuming it happens)

not big surprise. there's always something shutting down a section of line, shuttle rides were pretty common while I was there

ya.. mbta sucks hard.  the busses are probably the most reliable and no one takes them...

as for bars: the east side (more upscale/white) has beer garden and playwright - both are fairly large and always packed - typical decent to douchey crowd.  smaller pubs all around, but none really worth going to unless you're out past 1 in which case murphey's law is the only place open till 2 and it gets all the overflow from other bars (thats the type of place run my the irish mob and will have fights regularly).

west side all I really know is shenanigans and blackthorn, both are decent from what i remember. never been to junction, but that right beside blackthorn

Re: PAX EAST - Versus - 03-16-2010

lol irish mob

Re: PAX EAST - [fr31ns]Karrde - 03-16-2010

Are you kidding me?  MBTA is fucking win most of the time.  I got way farther way faster than any bus could get me.  'course it sucks when any of the lines are out since it keeps you from getting pretty much anywhere (usually takes at least 1 transfer to get where you're going).  Ah, derp, no big deal, it's on one of the far ends.  Just sucks if you need to go out there Tongue  Luckily, my brother lives out in Cambridge and the Red line is usually his primary (though he sometimes takes the red-green to his lab if he isn't biking or bussing since the bus runs pretty much right there)

Re: PAX EAST - copulatingduck - 03-17-2010

red line best line

i mostly just like the chimes at the kendall stop. i think they're broken down more frequently than the entire mbta subway system though

Re: PAX EAST - SAVAGE-0 - 03-17-2010

its all good and well off hours, but commuting sucks hard. it breaks down all the time, the greens are all packed for hours and the commuter rail (which i took for a year) is extremely unreliable... i mean don't get me wrong most of the time its ok... but it is considered one of the worst in the world for efficiency

Re: PAX EAST - BoBoTheBum - 03-24-2010

Related: I'm going! Not on friday though. <_<

Re: PAX EAST - copulatingduck - 03-27-2010

Prob gonna play in the AVP tourney tomorrow just cuz DJWheat is casting it. If you're bored watch for me there :3

Anyone there should also check out Steel Batallion upstairs in one of the freeplay sections. They're having an impromptu tourney as well, but that's not all that important. It's just nice to get to play a mech game with an actual console instead of a controller. Takes some practice but if you go through a few times it starts to get pretty awesome. Shame that they're about to completely shut down service for the game on the xbox.

Re: PAX EAST - Tricks - 03-27-2010

pics?

Re: PAX EAST - copulatingduck - 03-27-2010

i dont have a camera, but one of my teammates from SBU! brought one so there might be just a couple from the TF2 tourney. Or you can vaguely see my head in one of the pics from the TF2 tourney coverage

If I get pics or find some videos or something I'll post them, but honestly don't hold your breath. I'll take one tomorrow but taking pics will not be the focus of my visit.

So...Where did you place in the tourney?

Re: PAX EAST - copulatingduck - 03-27-2010

we went out in the semis to a reasonably complete competitive team. it was a close match, but we had some so-so ringers and some friends of SBU. I think it was the only match of the tourney that wasn't a blowout one way or the other, so even though the organizers were slightly miffed that both our teams had a 100 requests before the tourney started - had to get judges to disable mousaccel for example because obviously all PC gamers are pirates and hackers - they were glad to have a match that wasn't a blowout that was fun to watch, that actually went the full 30 minutes instead of ending 9 minutes into the game
