Question about the Iphone - Neonie - 04-14-2010

My step mom wants to give me her Iphone soon when she upgrades, since I'm still on my dads cell phone plan, he pays for the Data plans ect. that are required to get unlimited everything on the cell phones. Since my dad is already paying for a data plan for an Iphone (for my step mom) would I already be covered (and my dad not charged anymore) if I used the old Iphone and she used her new on or would that require an additional data plan amount on top of what my dad is already paying (leaving me to either not use the Iphone or pay for the extra data plan every month).

I would think you could add the phone to the plan without any problems, might depend on the contract though

Re: Question about the Iphone - Ianki - 04-14-2010

most likely you would need another data plan, because i'm fairly sure they don't just have unlimited data plans for families.  I would call at&t support. that would be a quick answer.

Yeah, you can just put your SIM card in the IPhone and go from there.

You could just wait until AT&T's contract with Apple ends this year and buy the iPhone on a different network.  :Smile

Whether or not you're going to get burned depends entirely on the type of plan your dad has, Neonie. _IF_ it's an unlimited everything family plan (unlimited everything for all phones on the plan), then you're in the clear, but I'd be _very_ careful and definitely contact AT&T to double check. If you just pop your SIM card into the iPhone you run the risk of assassinating yourself with data overage charges, seriously can end up in the thousands of dollars range so it pays to be cautious.

Re: Question about the Iphone - SAVAGE-0 - 04-20-2010

I dont think the data family plan covers the iphone connection - as mentioned b4 just call and ask, but make sure you have the name of the data plan you have on your bill.  I know when I added mine it  was +30 bucks and no way around it... but we didnt have another iphone on the plan, so I cant be entirely sure...
