Re: Android Phones - zaneyard - 03-02-2011

cm7 is super easy to drop on the the hero cdma

stock rom is fucking laggy compared to it

Re: Android Phones - BS1 - 03-04-2011

See, the only performance problem I really have with it is when I have a ton of messages. With 2,000+ messages the message list will take a while to load. I fixed that by backing up my messages and deleting the one's on the phone.  ;D

I have animations and feedback all turned off, so that may help.

Re: Android Phones - backfire - 03-05-2011

Anyone know if there's a way to skin or even just change the color of the status bar without rooting the phone? I got things set up with a different launcher and lockscreen for a darker theme, but that white status bar is just annoying and I can't find any leads how to fix it.

Does this help?

Re: Android Phones - zaneyard - 03-05-2011

why not just root it?
stock roms generally offer very little in modifications

Well frankly kinda terrified of the idea. If I end up bricking this thing I'm completely screwed. Though, I dunno how easy/hard it is or what the real list of benefits are. So far from what I saw, you can use something like CyanogenMod and change the status bar color and theme it easier or something, but that's all I really know. I'm pretty much still an android noob here to clear things up. I'm just running ADWLauncher right now and, asides from that bar, runs just fine. So, what real use do you get out of rooting a phone?

Re: Android Phones - zaneyard - 03-06-2011

customizability, in most cases, stability, efficiency. it's not hard, some kid did it for me during class in like 20 minutes. i don't even think it's possible to brick the damn things unless you like pull the battery out while you are writing to your recovery. the phone runs a lot better without "Sprint Nascar, Sprint NFL, and Sprint Suck my dick" Root access also allows wifi tethering, so if you have a notebook and you need internet away from home, you can connect it through your phone.

also, this kind of shit

also, battery life

something about software updates more frequently from devs who do it for free, in contrast to the company that made the phone/carrier

Re: Android Phones - backfire - 04-25-2011

Okay so I'm trying to root my phone according to this guide. I hit the "Shell Root" button, I got a message saying "device is already rooted". It's umm... not though...

Re: Android Phones - Dtrain323i - 04-27-2011

I want to root my droid x but from what I've read, any rooting of the Droid X is pretty much a guaranteed bricking.

no mention of it on the xda dev forums

What you do is... buy a Koodoo Nexus S from Best Buy, then an MTS sim. No contract Tongue

That or the same move with a Galaxy S2.

[/quote]k i understand the buying of an android not from MTS, but how would the buying of a mts sim card have no contract?

You can get any plan from any provider without a contract. It's month-to-month. The catch is that you don't get a hardware credit.
Right now MTS has the best network (MTS + Rogers combined) and best plans (unlimited data what?) but shitty phones.

It's $10 for a MTS sim, then you can pick any plan you want.
I think the Koodoo Nexus S is $400 or so.

Re: Android Phones - Chief - 06-26-2011

honestly the samsung galaxy s ii looks super sexy, i really want to get that
problem is, its gonna cost a lot for the phone itself

if rumors are true that it's coming to rogers in july i might as well go with them for a two-year contract

hopefully
ill be waiting in july rogers... and mts since they now share the network

Re: Android Phones - Badgerman of DOOM - 06-26-2011

Rooting of Droid X won't do bricking, it's just installing a custom ROM and even then it's been bypassed.

Anyways I run a rooted Droid X, and found an easy-rooting app that works like a charm called z4root. Try to find it, it's easy as hell.

Re: Android Phones - at0m - 06-26-2011

I need to root my Vortex, I just haven't bothered to yet. However, all the shit Verizon has pushed to it in the last few months has locked out my ability to send or receive texts because it thinks it's out of memory - even though there's a 4GB uSD card in it.

Re: Android Phones - Chief - 06-30-2011

bell, vigin, and sasktel have the galaxy s ii for $79 on a 3-year plan

i dont think any of them are good networks though... but its releasing in july and i fucking want that phone

Im on bell now and dont really have anything bad to say about them. I have service pretty much everywhere I go and pay like 55 bones a month plus tax for 2gb data, unlimited texting and a fab 10 thing.

On another note im looking at getting a HTC sensation/ Incredible S within the next month. Anyone have any first/second hand experience with one?
