BRBU Camping Edition - The Generic Name - 05-21-2013

So after a great ACEN and getting to hang out witchu guys for what has been my fourth con and second ACEN, I wanted to gauge interest in a BRBU weekend camping trip somewhere.  I know there are some people who would be down for it, but I want to know is when and where we could do it.  I vote Devil's Lake in Baraboo, WI sometime in late summer early fall (not this year, maybe 2014/2015).  If we do come to the conclusion that this is something we can BRB DO (FUCKING PUNS WAT) then I think we should schedule it.  I'm posting this in the Cosplay & Convention forum because it would be a group get together kinda thing, which up until now have just been conventions.

A Camping trip is probably cheaper than a convention, can have as much booze, and has the added benefit of not having to worry about your props being destroyed.  If we want to do this, and we get shit finalized, i dont want to be the only guy setting this up so yay group efforts! Big Grin

Places We Could Go:
Devil's Lake State Park, WI
South Dakota

I'd be interested but if this is going to be a thing we should work out as a group where the best locale is (BRB, entire forum converging on HeK and Luin's Cabin XD)

Re: BRBU Camping Edition - The Generic Name - 05-21-2013

That's what I was trying to say, but I tend to not say things good like message only part receivable.

Re: BRBU Camping Edition - at0m - 05-21-2013

Replying to show interest.

Re: BRBU Camping Edition - Dtrain323i - 05-21-2013

I'm in, my vote is for one of the Dakotas

Alternatively, I could probably host a brbu group here in Nebraska at my in-laws lake house.

Re: BRBU Camping Edition - [fr31ns]Karrde - 05-21-2013

I vote for downtown Detroit.

I believe we're now making an L4D2 mod XD  Seriously though just about anywhere I can do both fishing and hiking is good for me.  Which pretty much means wisconsin-minnesota-canada-michigan-dakotas areas.  At least to me, I honestly don't know much else.

Re: BRBU Camping Edition - FlyingMongoose - 05-21-2013

http://www.onwaldiespond.com/ <-- I know the guy who owns that, Honor, MI, it's about a 4 hr drive from Toledo, OH. Can sleep up to 15 people.

Don't remember how much he charges though. Does have internet with WiFi, but I will point out that he does have a security camera but of course will not disclose images from them.

I know this is not "true camping"... but... it's an option. It's not far from Lake Michigan, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and a few other activities within the area. And an hour from Traverse City, and in Honor is the best damn cherry pie I have ever had in my life at The Cherry Hut, they sell out... often. Also, while he does not commonly rent it out in the winter, there are snowmobile trails nearby that are pretty awesome too if you want to rent some sleds.

Lake houses would be best bet, potentially interested...

Re: BRBU Camping Edition - kaese - 05-21-2013

It's not camping if you sleep in anything other than a tent.

Re: BRBU Camping Edition - FlyingMongoose - 05-21-2013

You're welcome to bring a tent and pitch it in the yard. There's plenty of room for multiples and the drive can fit a camper too if someone wishes to bring that or a large vehicle.

Interested? Yes.

Being able to Afford it?  probably not.

I'd say that it is something probably best planned for next year. Planning it out now is kind of short notice.

Re: BRBU Camping Edition - FlyingMongoose - 05-22-2013

I was going to recommend that.

Also, if we split the cost it reduces quite well to each individual.

Re: BRBU Camping Edition - Dtrain323i - 05-22-2013

I'm doing some perusing for camp sites. South Dakota might be our best bet. Price is reasonable and it's somewhat centrally located. People on the coasts could fly into Omaha and I can pick them up and we can convoy up.

Re: BRBU Camping Edition - at0m - 05-22-2013

Camping is the cheap part. The expensive part is getting there.

Re: BRBU Camping Edition - Luinbariel - 05-22-2013

Our cabin is probably out, due to the dock/boat house being shitted up but good

Re: BRBU Camping Edition - Silenteidolon - 05-22-2013

Camping would be fun. Used to go on yearly camping trips up at Horse Tooth Lake in Colorado with family. Now that they they all hate each other I haven't been camping in awhile, especially since camping by yourself is called "Being homeless".
