Anime Detour Masquerade Music - Puting BRBU to Work XD - [fr31ns]Karrde - 07-19-2013
Ok so as the main sub head of the AD cosplay dept one thing I'm working on is replacing our generic music choices for next year. What we have now is...stale. So I'm taking suggestions. Here's what we're looking for:
1. Music from many different genres, instruments, etc. So electronic, rock (hell, even country I suppose), but also faster songs, slower songs, strings, brass, etc.
2. Avoid lyrics. We're a PG13 con for official events (not gonna lie, a lot of the staff is rather stumbly on sat night XD) and lyrics also defocus from the presentation.
3. I either need to already own the song or be able to buy it as a single mp3 somewhere. Gotta keep it legal (and yes we have an RIAA performance license that gives us carte blanche). Free music is also ok.
Help me out here, people XD

Anything by Rush is PG-13, and their instrumentals are fucking fantastic.
YYZ, Leave That Thing Alone, and The Main Monkey Business are just three examples.

YYZ makes my head hurt sometimes... but... I also like to play rock band (typically only drums) and on Expert... and I have it on there... basically I can only do well on The Trees, Limelight, and Tom Sawyer... the rest... well... I fail... often...

Oh man do I have a lot of stuff to say. First, I would suggest you get yourself a nice DSP, either in the form of a standalone, plugin, or even just an audio player's built-in equalizer. I know Mediamonkey and foobar have them, most big name players do. You kinda gotta morph the sound (boosting the ends) and it will give the music much more energy and punch in a large-audience environment. Otherwise it can just sound weak without a massive sound system.
I hope you like chiptune, beacuse I have a bunch. I would like to first point you towards the (quasi-chiptune) epic collaborative album Imposter Nostalgia by Big Giant Circles (and company). Specifically, if you need a fast song with a TON of energy check out Katana Blaster (Constantly Playing Mix). Little bit dubsteppy, but in a good way. As for slower goes, a great followup to that is You Can Have Mine. Mellow and catchy. It is, however, 6 minutes long so it might need some shortening.
You can never go wrong with Anamanaguchi, erryone loves it. Here, are, a, few.
