Total cost in parts according to a pcpartpicker they linked is about $1355 (excluding controller)

There is no way they will be able to sell at that price.

Anyone interested would be building a PC...though possibly by time they get this to market, the parts might be cheaper...

They will probably make versions to cater to different price points. Valve will also be able to get parts at lower prices than Joe Gamer would over Amazon or Newegg.

You have to remember, there are numerous manufacturers building steam machines, valve will not be building them themselves at all, the ONLY thing they are manufacturing are the controllers.

Valve has already stated that they know numerous manufacturers will be selling steam machines at prices comparable to todays console market as well as high end machines, plus they, as with any PC, will be able to be upgraded hardware wise.

i want the box it came in. Could use that for some nice decorative storage or modified shelving

also the controller seems a bit small, not that it could be a problem
