Which will happen first: the heat death of the universe, or valve pushing a not-broke-as-fuck update?

Re: Updates of the Week (ongoing discussion) - Maxon - 08-15-2012

Not just broke, but poorly designed.  It's all based on dedicated servers, even boot camp that has no loot, no just making your own servers like with L4D, so in both options, you have to wait.  The last group I tried, it was a 94 minute wait.  I'll wait for tomorrow or the weekend, hope more servers are added or changed.

no joke. I can't jump in Co-Op. Can't open Mann Co Store. Can't connect to item server. bluh. I'll keep playing Payday.

Re: Updates of the Week (ongoing discussion) - Eightball - 08-16-2012

For those of you guys who don't like to queue, it is possible to host a local/listen server. I got it to work tonight on just my home computer and connection, and probably 4 out of the 5 others joining reported no serious lag. It's late for me now, so I'll post a guide tomorrow. In the meantime, here's a summary of what you have to do:

Make sure your ports are forwarded (Source games use ports in the 27000-27500 range)
Launch TF2
Create Server > Any map (set max players to 32)
When server loads, open console
"sv_lan 0"
"heartbeat"
"changelevel mvm_coaltown" (or whatever)
And people should be able to join if your networking is all good. I know that's not too clear but know this: I can host locally and can probably set up Yellow tomorrow as well. Hooray no work!

Re: Updates of the Week (ongoing discussion) - StolenToast - 08-16-2012

After about 3 hours of tweaking it looks like Valve fixed everything except for the huge demand.  I joined a queue last night and got in after about 20 minutes and played a few rounds.

Pomson nerfed, no longer penetrates

Woohoo!

Re: Updates of the Week (ongoing discussion) - Vongore - 08-16-2012

So.. it now does only 12 damage? the main idea for it was to penetrate an do 30-40 :/

Re: Updates of the Week (ongoing discussion) - Dr. Zaius - 08-16-2012

the pomson didn't need a nerf

wow valve, way to gargle the semen yet again

Re: Updates of the Week (ongoing discussion) - Eightball - 08-16-2012

Pomson has got to be the gayest weapon in the game, and any nerf short of a complete removal imo is not enough. The only way I'd be okay with ubersapping is if the weapon did 0 damage altogether :\

Re: Updates of the Week (ongoing discussion) - Dr. Zaius - 08-16-2012

doubt it

demoknight armory is worse

hell the gunslinger is worse than the pomson

every weapon in non vanilla tf2 is gay

pomson didn't need a nerf r.i.p. #slowlykillingtf2

While particularly retarded, demoknights don't break any major game mechanics (as I posit the pomson does). I would make an argument for the splendid screen's "free-crit-at-point-blank" behavior. But either way a demoknight's going to get shit on in 1v1 combat, and also loses his crowd control ability the moment he puts away those stickies. There's a reason you almost never see a non-stock demo in 6s/HL.

Quote:hell the gunslinger is worse than the pomson

oh I agree the gunslinger is ridiculous, probably in need of either damage fall off over distance, building cooldown to punish trashcans that don't think before building, or incompatibility with wrangler.

Quote:every weapon in non vanilla tf2 is gay

I assume this is hyperbole, but I might actually agree with a statement rephrased for weapons released after, say, the first polycount set? Maybe just before then.

Pomson really was a poorly thought out item, and completely fucks up the biggest unique mechanic TF2 had to offer (ubercharges). That, combined with it's propensity for spamming chokes rather than actually focusing/aiming at the target is why every single comp league banned it and why eXtine wrote an appeal to valve to reconsider the weapon. When Australian Christmas hit, I was the one of two people on the UGC testing team who had acquired it. We put it to play in a game of granary, and the consensus was unanimous on both teams that it had no place in this setting. Me and the opposing engie just spammed the chokes to the point that pushes couldn't be made. Game came to a standstill.

We should probably get a formal discussion thread for weapon balance.

Re: Updates of the Week (ongoing discussion) - Kor - 08-17-2012

Oh I don't know about further discussion Eight. I'm a huge fan of the crippling power of the former Pomson, and I agree 100% with your stance on it. Every element about the Pomson has no place in TF2: Not in its function, not in its theme, and not in its place within the Engi's entire kit.
