New "Realistic" L4D Mod - Chief - 01-24-2009

There are no ammo points in the map so if your primary gun runs out you'll need to find another. However everyone still has infinate pistol (although with smaller clip and less accuracy).
• HUD completely revised - It now only shows your own health, no crosshair/inventory or teammate statistics (If you equip first aid then you can see your teammates health when you aim at them).
• Added in-game laser dot - Useful for close to medium range. This emphasises the sniper rifle as a profficient long range weapon as its the only gun with an effective long range aiming mechanism.
• Removed flashlight - This adds much more tension to darker areas of the map, especially when you need to search for weapons or first aid... Be careful in the dark...
• Various other smaller tweaks.
The flashlight being taken out might be the only problem.

Should have made the flashlight like doom 3 ironically, its own item or alternatively have it be usable only when the pistol is out

I think the intent is to make it more like an OG zombie style thing, with lots of slow but dangerous zombies and you're not an action hero just blowing hordes of them away.  I mean lets face it, L4D is fun, but it's a hyperspastic action shooter.  So I dunno, it might be interesting to see if it works at all

I agree with Caffiene. The flashlight should be a seprate item.

And more frequent hordes!! As if they're not frequent enough on the normal game!

I think you need to do a little tweaking on this ;D

You uh... you realize you've defeated your own logic on every "bullshit" call since they're all part of the "realism". Zombie lore = headshots. Hit from behind doing more damage? Punch someone in the face who you're fighting, then punch someone in the back of the head when they're not expecting it. Guess who's going down. Music cues monsters, none of that if it was real. Safe rooms are just that. They're not called "armories". Lrn2strategize. Also a saferoom irl would be a boarded up house/room where people had stayed, why would they leave ammo/health behind?

Imo this mod needs to allow people to "trade" weapons and health packs, a feature I'd like to see in normal l4d too for if someone has a better weapon but is less accurate, etc.

No, because I don't consider that kind of shit realism.  "Zombie Lore"?  Not really.  Headshot were always just he most effective way to kill since it pretty much did it right then and there, the other ways would just take longer, realistically speaking.  I don't see how getting attacked from behind should deal more damage realistically too.  Being "surprised" doesn't magically kill you faster, unless you have a tendency for heart attacks.

I know safe rooms are not armories, but I don't see the logic in having it so weapons and health can be picked up around the maps, but you wouldn't find weapons (even if it had no ammo cache) and health in the safe room.  But whatever, a hud that shows no ammo and all that doesn't irk me because it's one of those things that clicks to be "feasibly" realistic for me, as well as working in a gameplay enviornement realistically.

Well that depends on the type of zombie you are talking about, actual like mystic walking dead, yes, headshots only, 28 days later rage virus, I think a bullet through the heart will do just as good.

Not that I have L4D but I'd agree with the problems with the HS.  Even if a classic zombie wouldn't die from a non HS, you can do enough bodily destruction to prevent them from getting back up.

I have 3 or 2 manned every map in the game on expert, several times.

To clarify, this is where you shoot a teammate at the start of the game and never save them. I started this with a then random and now friend after we were repeatedly shot by an idiot who demanded I heal him because he walked in front of me firing. This really only works if your comp is faster than everyone else's, because you need to load before they do so you can shoot them at the beginning of each stage with no retaliation.

tl;dr Expert is no longer a challenge.

Last time we played Death Toll on expert we couldn't get past the first stage.

(mainly cause rio sucks)
