TF2 Replay Editor Movie Thread - backfire - 03-12-2011

So now that valve put in that replay editor in the beta, tf2 movie making isn't just for people with the god-like patience to endure the demo-smoothing system anymore. Since people turn em out much easier now, I figured we need a thread about them. This isn't a thread for those frag videos of comp level players pulling off 200% airshots, but for videos that either you made, features you or someone you know, or just a video made with the replay editor you liked or something... you probably get what I mean.

Anyways I'll start things off.

Also, if you're uploading a video you recorded on red or blue, stick this bit on the end of your description when you go to upload it.

Re: TF2 Replay Editor Movie Thread - Moosendoo - 03-12-2011

Here's my first attempt (skip the first 30 seconds - I should have cut that out):

I wish TF2 actually looked that nice in-game for me.

(EDIT: deleted this one)

Re: TF2 Replay Editor Movie Thread - backfire - 03-13-2011

Man this thing needs keyframes...

and less broken. I just tried filming a clip 3 times and they all switched back to my 1st person at random, like just ignoring commands.

it's beta for a reason [Image: frustrated.GIF]

edit:
So I was looking through my post history since it's 7:30am and I have nothing else better to do and found this thead.

That was describing this, and that was in 2009... valve time is beyond amazing.

Edit Edit:

Oh man.

so uh, when is this demo thing happening? I want to make another youtube video. ;D

Robin said "It's getting close to being releasable in a beta form." So, take into account ValveTime and umm...

"We're finishing this feature up now" translates to: "We've just finished the concept and we'll start working on it in the coming weeks (see below)"
"In the coming weeks" translates to: "In large updates starting in five months and continuing over the next two years:

Scratch what I said before. Valve time is actually just completely predicable.

Re: TF2 Replay Editor Movie Thread - Moosendoo - 03-13-2011

I noticed something weird.  Sometimes when people die the bodies go to different places in the same recording viewed different times.  I edited a take where I died at the end, and my body was hanging on by one hand over this ledge and I thought it was a really cool shot to end with - but then when I rendered it my body slid right off the ledge.  ???

Pyro Uber Something (Replay Editor)

W+M1'ing never looked so nice. That motion blur on the flames makes it real purty.

Re: TF2 Replay Editor Movie Thread - sk8mystery23 - 03-21-2011

Not bad at all Backfire, not bad at all. I'm assuming that is you playing?

Re: TF2 Replay Editor Movie Thread - backfire - 03-21-2011

Yeah, was doing kinda crappy though. Missed the spy with the detonator but said figured 'screw it'. Had a medic with an uber and felt like rushing some sentries.

Re: TF2 Replay Editor Movie Thread - sk8mystery23 - 03-21-2011

Naw, the gameplay was solid, and the video was great. You Pyro capped that shit. Round win.

Re: TF2 Replay Editor Movie Thread - backfire - 05-05-2011

Re: TF2 Replay Editor Movie Thread - backfire - 05-05-2011

Okay this one's for caff

Quote:EDIT: These settings and a decent explanation of them can be found in three files in the cfg folder on your server.

replay_enable 1

replay_fileserver_host "*************"
- The hostname of the Web server hosting replays. This can be an IP or a hostname, e.g. "1.2.3.4" or "www.myserver.com[url=http://]"
Your web hosts domain name!

replay_fileserver_path "*************"
- If your replays are stored at "http://123.123.123.123:4567/tf/replays", replay_fileserver_path should be set to "/tf/replays"
This is the local path leading to the replay folder, as if you typed in the previous setting's URL into a web browser, with this on the end.

replay_local_fileserver_path "*************"
- The file server local path. For example, "c:\MyWebServer\htdocs\replays" or "/MyWebServer/htdocs/replays".
This is the path to the replay folder on the web server. Must start at root or the drive letter (usually / for linux or c: for windows).

replay_fileserver_offload_enable 1
If your server running TF2 also has an http server running on, then you can set this to 0. If your web server is run separately, this needs to be set to 1.

replay_fileserver_offload_hostname "*************"
- Hostname for FTP server where session blocks will be offloaded.
Usually the same as the file server host.

replay_fileserver_offload_login "*************"
- Login for session block offloading.
This is the FTP username to connect to your web server.

replay_fileserver_offload_password "**********"
- Login for session block offloading.
FTP password to connect to your web server.

This offload fileserver stuff is the ftp info for your web host.
Type these commands into console to find descriptions for each one.

The system records on the server, then connects to a web host to upload the recordings through FTP. Then clients download the replays from the web host.

EDIT: Added descriptions

Oh and you need to change the map! It seems to work just fine along side SourceTV, too.

EDIT2: If you look in your server's cfg folder, there are 3 auto generated configs with instructions. Edit these settings there!

Re: TF2 Replay Editor Movie Thread - BS1 - 05-06-2011

Can't wait to try it out. I haven't used it yet. Is there a limit to how long the video is? Could I have the video for like 20 minutes+/life?

You could yea, but it'll take a century to render.

Re: TF2 Replay Editor Movie Thread - [SiN] Merc - 05-06-2011

Re: TF2 Replay Editor Movie Thread - Wyrmidon - 05-06-2011

arena_watchtower: double kill

(that or my laptop can't render correctly)

I thought, rainbows made the scout cry? This makes no sense.

Re: TF2 Replay Editor Movie Thread - backfire - 05-07-2011

Nice Shootin There

I dunno, was messing around on red at 2am trying to seed, and this thing happened. Seeing how red's apparently the only server in existence with a working replay system, I took this and ran with it. Anyways, any plans on adding an additional slot for the replay system or would that be totally not worth it?
