why are there different numbers of stars next to our names?

...There shouldn't be. Normally it would be related to a postcount-linked forum rank, but we don't track postcount here because forums that do end up with prepubescent kids spamming teh boards and using their postcount as an epeen. Looks like someone fucked up.

Re: Member Groups - Blues - 07-03-2009

If you look at user profiles we're in a "hidden post count" group, so they're probably not actually disabled.

They're not tracked in any forum other than the announcements one, and the entire board has been modified so that they're not displayed. Are you seriously going to argue semantics with me?

Re: Member Groups - Tragic Hero - 07-03-2009

I don't know...I think Blues is right.  I've seen certain members go from 1 to 2 stars and so forth.

Re: Member Groups - Scary Womanizing Pig Mask - 07-03-2009

I think it's  based on member groups. (i.e admins get 5 stars, server admins 3, mappers 2 and so on) and with the wacky custom titles just getting a random amount.

I wouldn't have seeing as it was just a general statment, but since you're acting butthurt, yes.

It takes like 2-4 edits to a forum template to display or hide post count. That's of course, assuming that there isn't already a line in there that references something as simple as a "hide post count" checkbox. I've never used simple machines forum software, so I couldn't tell you. Unless post count is fully disabled, the db will continue to track user post counts regardless of there being no displays for it, and if there is a slip up somewhere... say someone forgot to disable user ranks based on post count, then that would still reflect the user's post count, even if we can't see the number because the display has been removed.

Even if they're only tracked in the announcements forum, that would still mean some form of the posts are tracked, and the stars, which are a general forum "rank" are probably based on the user post count, since that's the default for just about any forum software I can think of. Next time instead of taking a speculative statment that's probably right anways and PMSing all over it, just don't fucking post.
