Does my icon make me look furry? >_< - copulatingduck - 05-23-2008

Well I'm fairly new to the server as well, but apparently I too am fairly regular (regular like ur mom... wait, wut?)

First off, the name. People always want to know where the hell I got CopulatingDuck from. Don't believe what Surf tells you, he thinks I like to fuck duck's or something like that (now I don't know how they do things over in that cesspool of a state they call florida, but that shit will not stand in the places I've been). Either way, the name comes from a conversation with a friend here at college. He was wanting some tips on how to approach the ladies and asked myself and another lady if we could help him out. So we asked him to practice his pickup lines on her, but he wasn't having any of that. Having just finished a great game of cards, we obviously had a giant rubber ducky on hand, so we had him practice his moves on that. It was at that moment that we discovered why it was he was failing so hard with the ladies. The line: "Nice shoes... Uhh, let's copulate?"

edit:

You know what, writing this is fucking hard. I've got two problems:

a) Despite my age, my memory is probably the worst of the lot of us. Seriously, I'm worse than a goldfish
b) I did not become a serious gamer until high school; I was mostly the get-outside and wrestle/play football in the street kind of kid

I'll write it out, but forgive me if it doesn't have as much about games as you would want.

So anyways, where do I come from exactly? Well, I'm just like the old Texan adage says: American by birth, Texan by the grace of God. I started gaming with Nintendo and the  [Super Mario Bros | Track Meet | Duck Hunt] all-in-one cart. Unlike some of the fatties on the board, I never was one for jumping off the mat though. If you had to cheat at Nintendo, you fail. Probably my favorite game on the NES was Battletoads, though I could never beat that POS, even with a fucking Game Genie. I had a lot of fun with Mega Man 2 as well, but I never managed to make it to Dr. Wily, much less stick it to him. Come to think of it, I don't think I ever legitimately beat any of my old NES games.  Sad

The next system I had was a Genesis. I actually remember getting this for Christmas, it was in a huge TV box my parents got for me and my brother. We unwrapped it, and it was a TV box, and (oh the naivete) we were like "A TV?" Not too excited, but then my folks told us to open it. Stealing a page from the Chinese, there was a box-in-a-box-in-a-box ad infinitum type deal going on. It came with Sonic 2 and a coupon/rebate for another Sonic game, so we got Spinball. What I remember most about the Genesis was Sega Channel. That was probably the best deal my parents ever got games-wise, and I wish such a thing still existed. The beginning of every new month I remember getting up around 5am, and turning the Genesis on. There was always a new Theme for the UI, and around 50 new games you could play each month over cable. Sweetest fucking deal I've ever had honestly. After we got Sega Channel, I never put another cartridge in the Genesis.

The Genesis lasted us a few years, but eventually I saw some commercials for Super Metroid and just had to have it. Well being poor and the son of a fence-jumping, Rio-Grande swimming mother and a bastard, runaway, redneck father, I wasn't getting anymore from my parents gameswise. If my brother and I wanted anymore, we would have to pay for it. So when I was about 11, I worked the entire summer in my dad's auto shop working to save up enough money to buy myself and SNES. At the time I thought I was getting a great deal, but the retro-goggles tell me my old man was paying my wages that would've been almost criminal even in a children's sweatshop (hurr, not that bad, $10 a week actually). Had some good times with that (mostly Wrestlemania, Earthworm Jim, and some random-ass games from Mexico my grandma got), but ultimately forgettable.

When I got an N64 (Christmas of launch year, sometime in HS for me I think) I would say that I finally arrived as a gamer. Goldeneye, Star Fox, Wrestlemania 2000, and Mario Kart were on all the time, and me, my brother, and the friends from next door were always playing. I had a lot of good times with it, but ultimately, living in a bad neighborhood we got robbed. The little shits stole most of our games, but left Goldeneye and the console. After that, I mostly just played Wrestlemania over a friend's house.

Beyond that, I played a lot of Smash Bros. on the Cube in my later HS early college years. Until I built a PC for games in my freshmen year of college (first build ever), I had only played Gorrilas, Snake, Lemmings, Worms 2, and Emperor: Battle for Dune on my PC. It wasn't really the ultimate gaming rig by any strech of the imagination. In fact, until I got here to MIT, the best internet connection I ever had was 3KB/s on Wal-Mart Connect, and that was on the family computer. I played a lot of Yahoo Pool, and was actually invited to but did not join a clan (the site was some AngelFire abomination that was kewl in the 90's), but mostly, I stole music or did solid modeling in AutoCAD for fun.  Tongue

Being a poor college student, the only games I played were the ones I could steal. Though, as a result of a pricing error at Wal-Mart (I love Wal-Mart), I got HL2 for $10, so that was probably the first PC game I legitimately paid for. The story was interesting enough that I bought HL1 for the backstory. I've since gotten a decent-paying job, and had a change of heart as far as stealing games goes. I'm all for supporting publishers at this point, so I try to pay for every good game that I play, but I'm not about stealing a game to try it out. I now own an Xbawks360 (and did some serious online GOW and COD4 on that for months), built a better gaming PC, and bought The Orange Box for HL2:E2. I did not expect TF2 to be worth, and was actually pretty pissed that I couldn't get Portal and HL2:E2 without TF2 and HL2 packaged with it. So yea, like I said in some other thread, TF2 is my first rodeo  Tongue

So yea, if you're still reading at this point, you must be incredibly fucking bored. Drunken train-of-thought style intro for the loss.

The Here and The Now:
Currently, I'm finishing up my Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering here at school. Given how much fun it was, I will NOT be pursuing additional degrees. Putting in 80+ hours a week into engineering courses leaves one feeling a bit burned out, and it's that burnout that kind of led to me becoming a regular in the last 2 semesters. I had joined Dtoid while procrastinating, and at the time, liked the community. I started joining up on the server every once in a while, but I honestly can't remember when or how it happened that people started remembering me. Nevertheless, I love the community surrounding the server, enough that I went to the trouble of setting up our spillover server (<3 MIT's bandwidth).

Also, I would rather follow in Jeffrey Lebowski's footsteps. That guy was way cooler than Gordon Freeman.

The thing about your icon, Duck, is that it does kind of make you look like a furry. But the guy who draws VGcats, ironicly enough, hates furrys.

No one creates a comic where the entire main cast is anthorpomorphic animals without having some furry in them.

Damn Duck being an engineer sounds hard, makes me think twice about my own mechanical engineering degree.
Is it hard because spies sap your sentries?
(I couldn't resist)

So you were an unfortunate one that played lemmings too?  I was too young to enjoy the challenge so I spent most of my time just grouping a bunch of them together and blowing them up.

Man, I knew they controlled a lot in the midlands, but I had no idea it went that far.  Spooky.

I'm just going to shorthand your name by making the sound a copulating duck would make. It's disgusting, but I think you'll get used to it. : p

Quick poll hasn't anyone ever heard the expression fuck a duck?  I could have sworn that was what his name came from...

I think it's just cuz fuck and duck rhyme, and most people have no imagination (and I have too great of one ahhh get it out get it out).
