Supposedly Microsoft attempted to test games that would splice PC and Console gamers in the same game, but the project was scrapped because the PC gamers wiped the floor with the console gamers...

If this happened, then I it think would have been pretty cool. Take THAT console snobs!
You know I never seen any snobbery on the side of the console, but you PC folk seems to think we backwater-console types are nothing but inbred hicks. Whenever I say anything about the 360 or days playing the orange box, it's always "X-Box Sucks, what the fuck are you playing it for?".

I would never play some PC games on the console but there are a LOT of games I wouldn't play on the PC that has a console version of.
The only games that work better on console are racing/sports games.
I disagree. A lot of hack n' Slash games come to mind, two in particular, God of War and Dynasty Warriors.

Actually, even racing games are a little off. Most of the high up racing sim rigs are PCs.

Seriously, I plugged my xbox controller into my PC and I'm good to go. Same with hack n slashes (if you really insist on playing with a controller anyways, I think I'd prefer the keyboard though). There's really nothing that a console has over a PC besides the library

It's about mod-ability, control scheme, and what level of control you exert over your platform. And the perception from PC gamers that they've been "left with scraps". As consoles have generated more market share more developers make games designed around how to play on a console instead of a PC, just look at how UT99 compares to UT3 for example, in play control, hell even the GUI on the PC version look like they were made for using a controller instead of a mouse.

With the orange box on the 360 or PS3 you get just the vanilla stuff, no mods, no custom maps/models/sounds, etc. With the PC version I get access to dozens of top-notch mods such as Dystopia, Empires, PVKII, sourceforts, black mesa source (soon!) and more. Not to mention custom maps/models, etc. in any of the aforementioned games. So when someone says that you're only getting half the experience...you really are...TF started out as a Quake 2 mod, Counter Strike was an HL1 mod, and hell the entire original staff of valve were all Quake 2 modders and gold source was built off that engine.

Not everyone wants or needs the custom stuff, but just remember the "next big thing" usually comes in out of a mod group, just look at Alien Swarm.

For me the pricing is just way better. I like console games because it's a fun way to spend time with my wife. Even single player we can sometimes do together. Last night we were playing an ace attorney game on the DS together and working out how to solve the crime.

Spoiler: Detective Gumshoe is a fatty

As someone who has studied finance, I was unaware of this provision and it makes me happy in the pants

Take anything you read on DU with a huge skeptical grain of salt. Half of them slap their hands over their ears going "lalalalalalalala Obama can do no wrong"

The other half are trolls from AR15.com

In the short term it's a problem, in the long term it is a good idea. Hell as an appraiser I had to carry E&O insurance because if any client wanted they could sue the shit out of us for a bad report. And those were valuations of assets under a couple million. Why are those that rate huge amounts of money worth of assets exempt.

Oh I know, I tried looking for another link on the matter, but just got lazy. Its written very biased, but the provision he mentions still exists and that's really what matters.

Edit - Article on this from NPR's Planet Money

Long story short ratings agencies can be held liable if they rate a turd AAA, before the three agencies were somewhat of a rubber stamp depending on the size of the bond issue and who was issuing it. They had incentives to rate things higher than they should because they received direct commissions on the sales of that issue.

Investors really can't do their due diligence on some of these things due to information asymmetry, this counter balances their incentives for giving a higher rating than they should be imposing a penalty if they are caught.

One could argue the potential down side is that even if they give a proper rating and something does fail due to circumstances they were unable to take into account that they should not be held liable, however I think that would be a matter for a court or the SEC to decide. They could present documented justification as to why they gave the rating they did at the time, and what circumstances led to changes or omissions. At that point however, liability might either be dropped or rightly passed onto the bond issuer for giving the ratings agencies false or misleading information.

Either way it should be good for investor trust and confidence in the bond market. Issuers and ratings agencies won't be happy, but the people actually buying the bonds will have a greater degree of confidence that what they are buying is genuine, obviously don't stop doing your homework and buying things blindly, but should you be deceived, as many people were, by mortgage backed securities that were stamped with AAA ratings, you have recourse for getting burned.
