My moneys on a piece of a space sandwich an astronaut accidentally dropped while exploring the moon became sentient, and is plotting his delicious revenge.

By the way, it's been confirmed that they aren't announcing the direct discovery of any life.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. It is the first discovered life form to not require phosphorous. Phosphorous happens to be a part of our DNA, RNA, and ATP. Those are pretty important things. I think the point is that some of the most fundamental parts of a cell do not require what is traditional thought to be needed to sustain life on Earth.

There was an X-Files episode kind of like this (Firewalker, season 2 i think?) except it was a kind of fungus found in a volcano and it was silicone based. Killed a couple people.

This is mainly for Atom... or anyone else who is familar with PLCs: http://www.langner.com/en/2010/11/16/examining-the-man-in-the-middle/

So far, Stuxnet is one of the few things that really scares me.... and not because of it's capabilities...

That's something that's spooked me as well, because all PLCs have similar functionality. If you've got someone who knows how to compromise the system, they can do some pretty horrific damage. I shudder to think of what some of my machines would do if the outputs suddenly became nonsensical. People could die. The fact that this was targeted at a nuclear facility makes it even more scary. That's like Chernobyl, but on purpose.

Take a look at the other blog entries, the engineer details how the 'warhead' effected the high-freq converters and hid it's self with false display read outs

Yeah, I'm going to assert that stuxnet was us.

Or, was it you, Hek?

As it's now tied into assassinations of key related assets, ie Iranian engineers from the last target and one of their EW specialists (choreographed in-transit bike-to-car assault I am told), I am going to guess on Mossad.
