There is a driver update for the 8 series cards. This update includes Physx integration and improved performance. I had no clue about it until I felt like checking..came out late Sept.

Yea, I tried the new drivers the day they came out, royally fucked things up on my system. Ended up having to uninstall and go with older ones. I don't know if maybe it was just a problem they were having that day or what, but I had to use some old drivers I had laying around on my drive. ConsFearacy said he's seen a huge boost in performance in most games, but a big drop in performance in TF2.

Yeah I tried that way back when too.  It was fun to dick around with the little physics demo things.  And uh... well nothing else really changed much AFAIK.  Unless you had SLI or a super high end card, I don't think you could do a tonne with it anyways.

They've updated again since the PhysX integration (up to 178 from 177 now). I always like to keep mine up to date but I rarely notice a difference when I switch for better or worse  :-\

I've noticed a performance gain..but not a big one in TF2..

Just waiting on that multithread patch..L4D comes out soon..i wouldn't be surprised if they updated the engine then.

I got an increase in TF2, but that's all I've noticed a gain in, I might have to try it in Gears now, see if I get more than 30-35 FPS like I normally do

PhysX only works for programs designed using the PhysX physics model.  Ergo HAVOC won't use it.  Also, you're not gonna wanna try using physx on an 8600, it's just too weak to handle the work.  I'm currently using 178.13 on my laptop and I got a few extra frames outta the deal (makes a bug dif if you have a 256 meg 8600m GT)

Fuck this,

it blue screened my computer.

Worked fine for me.

9600GT

Also, with the latest drivers I get sexy performance improvements across the board.

Apple just upped their cards to the 9 series which makes me wish my computer broke a little later.  Especially with the problems I hear with the 8 series.

It made Bioshock work for me

:awesome:

okay nevermind, new drivers did end up screwing me over. being stuck with 640x480 and 4bit color is not fun. thankfully I still have my drivers CD.

EDIT: OIC WAT U DID THERE

It's sad that I can get an avg of 70 fps in a game like Devil May Cry 4 and 65 in Bioshock, but I get 25-40 in TF2. I REALLY need them to go ahead and update that engine for dualcore support.

Agreed. Same with the dedicated server. I think pretty much any other game is less of a resource hog.
