$600 budget rig? - Aerox - 12-25-2008

Friend has $600 of Christmas money and wants to build a comp. for L4D and TF2 and other games.  Doesn't need a monitor because he is planning on just hooking the machine up to his television, but will need everything else.  His only main requirement is that it run L4D "without a hitch" while looking pretty good.  If it matters, the TV is 37", 1366×768, 720p/1080i.

Suggestions/halp?

I can build the PC, install OS, pre-tweak, test, and ship it to you for 600. Ask Radio about his, I even include free porn of your choice. (cp in his case)

Regardless I'll throw a list together tonight or tomorrow for you, this is US and he knows how to assemble the PC, yus?

Re: $600 budget rig? - Aerox - 12-26-2008

It's US; I dunno how much he knows about putting stuff together.  Probably not a ton, but I assume he can follow directions.  I will mention your offer to him.

Edited to add: He's interested; you should probably talk to him directly.  Email me at jonathan.ross@gmail.com and I'll put you in touch with him.

I'm guessing the free porn sealed the deal. It would for me. Shot you an email.

Re: $600 budget rig? - Wedge - 12-26-2008

I'm sure Blues can come up with some proper fancy build thing, but what I would check, is how does he plan on outputting sounds?  Is his primary sound system through his TV or his computer?  Because if it's through the TV system, there are a couple cards with integrated HDMI that can route the audio into the TV as well.  I'd guess it might be useful, as getting audio from a PC to a TV that has any kind of real sound system hooked up to it can be a bitch.

If he just uses headphones or something though, then w/ever.

Rest is not important.

Email may not have gone through; nothing is in my inbox.

I'll let him talk to you about sound and whatnot and what all his plans are for it.

I'd have asked, but basically any card I'd include in a build for a TV that large already has HDMI output, so it's not necessary.

Wait,

Did I just read this?  First reply is "give me money, I'll do it for you" ?

I thought this was the "ask questions, share knowledge" forum not "sell your skills" forum.

Ask for a parts list, there are plenty of people who'd go through the trouble to put together a decent parts list off newegg or the like for free. or look through the other build a rig threads there are tons of budget machine lists floating around here.  If you can manage to post here, then you can probably figure out how it all fits together when it arrives, or hell, we'd even give you good advice for that too.

Nope, you skimmed and misunderstood. I offered to build it, or to put together a parts list, which is why I verified if his friend knew how to build them.

Oh and by the by, for a 600$ computer, I might make a grand total of 2$ profit on this, so I'm not sure why you put "for free" in italics there. I build PCs for references and for fun, if I wanted profit I'd set up a section on my site for people to order them.

Re: $600 budget rig? - A. Crow - 12-26-2008

Funny how that "regardless" escaped me.

Re: $600 budget rig? - fyre - 01-07-2009

Anyone ever make a parts list? I've been toying with the idea of building a new PC.

It's probably in the build-a-rig thread

Yes, but what sorts of screws did you use?

If you didn't use magnesium-alloy torx-headed tapered screws, then why bother?

No no, Americans hate change, but love bitching about not having it.
