Never, ever, buy anything gateway or dell

Build a desktop, if you *must* have a laptop, get Asus

And don't buy it from fucking Best Buy.  If you've got $1000 to spend, it damn well better be able to play TF2 ;P.  And if you don't need it to play games, you can get something for a lot cheaper.

after getting only laptops for 5 years... i had alienware (heat issues and death weight) compaq (low power gpu - heat issues) and acer (sucked but was fast for office work) and on and off my moms old ibook g3 (lolz). i dont think any of them are worth it for anything, school work, porn, games. they all suck. this isnt rage, just experience. use a pad and paper, use some GTD skills the old fashion way. get a moleskin notebook and a damn expensive pen.

I had an emachines back in the day. I'm so glad I bought the warranty on it, as I ended up sending it in for repairs 15 times in 3 years. Go with something namebrand, you won't regret it. Oh, and forget about playing games on a laptop that isn't ridiculously expensive (unless it's on lowest settings Tongue)

$1000 is plenty for a laptop that can run games reasonably well =P.

Meh, in the long run it is just cheaper and easier to play games on a desktop.  There are less cooling issues, parts are easier to replace, and it's more comfortable.  I'm with Caff on the Asus thing though.  I don't know too much about how well their hardware works, but I know that they have some of the best customer service around so that if something does fuck up.  When I called them concerning an issue with my motherboard, not only did I get an actual American on the phone :o but he actually knew what the hell he was talking about, even gave me a few pointers on building a computer while he was at it.

Dell's aren't awful.  Especially when I get a really damn good discount.  But yeah, barring that, get an Asus if you must have a lappy.  Only reason I didn't build a rig was because I can't haul it around/dial into a home computer on a reliable basis.

<+Karrde> welp, time to learn some basic patterning skills
<@Negate> 12121212121212121212
<@Negate> there is a simple pattern
<+Karrde> I changed my mind.  Gonna cosplay as a gay demon from hell and get negate raped instead XD
<+Caffeine`work> Karrde: Gay demon? Why would you need to cosplay just go as yourself
<+FlyingMongoose> Caffeine`work: Karrde would actually have to tone it down some.

Dells are awful, you just don't think they are because you get them on the cheap. If I could get dells for like $50 - 100 I wouldn't think they were shit either.

Buy Asus or don't buy at all

If you call that a deal you're a chump. It's not too difficult to talk them down at least $200/$1000 spent

qft

Asus laptops have a 2 year manufacturers warranty ( most others have a 1 year ), and a 1 year accidental laptop protection (coffee spills, droppin , stupidity. others come with none ) also they come with a 2 day repair turnaround ( or something to that effect, look into it for more details )

I got my computer from Dell, from way back when I was a computer newb.  It was expensive but worth it.  Still plays newly released games at high settings.

Some of the dell servers are nice, but that's about it.

If you want bang-for-the-buck under $1000, I'd look at Asus's newest:
http://www.agearnotebooks.com/asusn50vn-a1b.html
It'll also be available on Newegg, but AGear is cheaper.
