Okay, so I'm practically definitely done with TF2, it just lost its glory for me. Like it was cool and all that stuff when the pyro and heavy shit came out. Then it started becoming rage territory with the scoot and huntard stuff. Then the demo/soldier updates I realized I didn't care enough.
I play a lot of left 4 dead 2 when I can (i.e. never), but I dunno, I don't feel as attached to this community as I did before.

I dunno if its because I haven't been gaming as much because of school or what. But whichever. I still come on now and then but... yeah.

So school has been shooting me with lots of work, which is fine and dandy, except I feel guilty because I am unable to upkeep some promises to caff now and then. But hey, I draaaaw shit.

Of which, I'm gonna try and juggle stuff and try to get more active on this forum again.
This thread is now a blog.

So heres a drawin' I gotta do for an illustration class. The project is to take a fairy tale character (given to us by the teacher) and contemporalize them, as if they were born into today's world while retaining their "aura".
Super w.i.p., this thing is 18x24 at 300dpi.

id imagine big breasts become a bit harder to draw when it's for a class. And i dont think red riding hood with giant pornstar tits is really retaining her aura. lol

Why not get an art blog? Not that I'm against your posting here, of course, but those tend to be useful for keeping things in order and watching your own progression as well.

Its really the semantic of gaming and a gaming based forum.

Constructive criticism:

I like the sketch and overall construction, but the colors and details need a lot of refining. Your backgrounds tend not to be as detailed and that usually works but it seems like the assignment wants you to try and tell a story with your art. You should try and make the woods look more menacing, but keep her looking mischievous and unafraid. This is definitely a modern take as modern stories tend towards strong female characters where before they were helpless damsels in distress.

It's very comic book like but the best comic artists can tell an entire story visually. So you need to put in all the touches that make this red riding hood distinctive. I have a basic idea of her now: she's playful and mischievious, she's a bit dangerous, she can take care of herself, she can bend her former foe to her will but you would assume she still has other challenges. I can read this much from the cocking of her head and the protectiveness of the wolf, but I want to know more about her.

Ryan Kelly is one of my favorite comic book artists. I'm sure there are better examples but that's a good place to go to get an idea of what I'm talking about. Even the first sketch on his blog has a lot of visual reading. You can form a story for that scene with just the sketch.

We're suppose to exclude as much narrative as we can actually. As for the menacing woods, I like that idea.
Edit: that was a very good crit, and I appreciate that a lot. I'm tryin to figure out the color dealie. I wanted a super saturated red supported by mid-saturated warm greens and browns. The wolf would most likely be cool blue-gray in color, to contrast itself with red, while keeping in with the unsaturated but high-in value road.

A fellow illustrator of mine does these amazing trees, and I gotta get my hands on a picture of them so I can learrrrrn.
