It's obsidian, which was made up of most of the original dev team. They are making this game with Bethesda's engine. So it should have a better story.

anyways, if this will play like i think it will (vegas making up 80% of the areas you go to), i think itll be great, if not a bit uninspired. i didnt really like fallout3s tiny little dc area, it felt like a really small and copy pasted, but thats because bethesda made it (copy paste kings of gaming), also hope obsidian takes the moddability of f3 without the lack of patches(which is what bethesda does, makes a great editor but then never fixes their games because they know their fans will)

I really miss having the world map and random encounters, I see no reason you can't a world map and a wide expansive area, just wander far enough outside of town and you get a message "entering world map" and then you click to go on your way...

Heck, Arcanum had _both_ a world map and you could actually walk to the next town if you really really wanted to.

i think you need really varied encounters for a world map w/ random encounters to work, i dont want to constantly fight the same 4 mobsters over and over and over

A world map could certainly replace the teleport system of Fallout 3.  It's not really necessary, but it would make getting around to places abit more involved and dangerous rather than an easy way to pop around on the fly.

I'm still confused about the meaning of the title.  Is the game set in New Reno, which has become the "New" Vegas of post-apocalyptia?  Or did the real Vegas somehow not get abandoned and fall apart after the bombs fell due to its lack of water or any useful resources?

Well seeing that the place has power...My guess is that after things went to hell and maybe with it not being hit too bad, that they were able to rebuild better compared to locations like DC where it was hit so hard, rebuilding is almost impossible for the most part.

And though I don't know Fallout history too much, isn't the Brotherhood from the west coast, at least the main force?  More stuff involving them maybe?

If its the Fallout 1/2 team thats developing it, I wonder how much Van Buren IP/story/material is going to make it into New Vegas. I mean, the whole story in Van Buren was about the Brotherhood fighting NCR, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if the Brotherhood is who is keeping the lights on in Vegas...
