:/ Makes me wish I lived in the area, I'd just let you crash at my place. Hell, if you knew my mom better she'd probably be cool with you staying there (there are two spare bedrooms most of the time). As it stands, this sounds like the far end of an arc of 'you're going to figure your own life out and be a goddamn adult if it fucking kills you' that your parents have been riding for a few years now. You think it's bullshit, I think it's bullshit, they probably think its bullshit to but 'it's for your own good' or some stupid crap like that.

That actually blows my mind.  Granted, I don't visit my parents often (even though we live on the same street), but if I needed them for something like that, then there wouldn't be a second thought.  "Gee, your apartment flooded (or something shitty like that since I live on the second floor)?  No prob, sleep at home for a few days."

Of course, there would be awkward conversations afterwards, but that's just because my mother's a horrible conversationalist.

Question: DO your parents know RoseSpirit?  If this is the issue, then they should get to know each other.  If they already know her, then obviously they're making excuses for something else.

Caff,
I'm not sure what you're confused about.
  a) did you already not know that your parents are more square than cool? Cool parents, like big daddy zane, tend to stand out?
  b) that you expected extra understanding from your parents given the financial hardship due to the flood?
  c) are there differences in religious / moral values at play here that you know but most of us in the audience don't?

some people are cool, some people are squares

I just had my step-brother give me shit for hiring movers instead of calling him. On the other hand, my grandmother wouldn't let me and my fiance sleep in the same room at her house.

a) Dad is much more chill but caves to my mom, I thought they might be ok with it for a few days
b) She stated I "make enough money" to afford it after all Im not paying rent right now right?
c) Yes there are, Ive drifted quite far from my Mother at least, which she someone sees as a failure on her part...that I took my own path after getting out to college...

That was partly why I thought it might be a decent idea, get to know her better than the original plan (which would have just been a dinner) allows for, it doesnt exactly leave someone with the best impression now does it?

Translation: we've determined that you make enough money to live your own life, according to your own moral compass, that we don't agree with, nor will we finance.

Harsh, but that's the line she (and he) have drawn.

Lesson learned: you cannot rely on their good will or charity.

in other fun apartment news, I did my first load of wash to learn that the dryer does not work. It flips the breaker, and the breaker didn't go back. Assuming the breaker had gone, I notified the landlord and gave them permission to enter and fix today.

I get home, looks like no one stopped by. Meanwhile, my wet laundry has been sitting for a day, since I assumed that it would have been fixed already and I could dry it tonight. NOPE.

So, I'm all like, hmm, 3-prong adapter. Let me route this to a different outlet. Immediately, the other outlet trips that breaker. It's the dryer that's shorting, not the breaker.

Knowing a replacement dryer is going to take some time, I know have undies draped over every available surface in this 400 sq ft closet.

MY DIRTY UNDIES, DUDE. The LAUNDRY. THE WHITES.

Since I'm slow and didn't realize it sooner (and must have missed the news if it was mentioned prior),

I was extremely comfortable in my 300ish sqtf apartment in college.  Granted, I had a twin bed.

EDIT: no, I just thought he got re-engaged since I last heard. Assumed that the entanglements mentioned in another thread were a clue.

EDIT2: If you need me, I'll be hiding until my shoulders un-cringe

No, Karrde wants to keep things casual.

also, it's cool. I'm private enough that I don't expect, or want, people to remember all the details of my non-avatared-life. (like Crow seems to remember....)

Next time, I'd advise you to ramp up the credit card expenditures before you're so low on cash.  That way you still have a several hundred in the bank in case shit really hits the fan and you need cash, and you'll be able to make minimum payments on your card so you don't piss them off.

also, i thought you had a job?
