I just found out google did a street view of everything in my area.  Which means they probably got most of you as well.  So post your favorite haunts.

This place is right next to my house and makes great curry and other stuff.  I'd eat there 3 times a week if my wife would let me.
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=29.66....99,,0,1.4
The are also pretty hippy and today I saw a flyer for sea sponge tampons  :-\

This is a local grocer that does all sorts of hippy stuff and local farmer produce.  But it's also right next to my house and has an amazing beer selection so I go there pretty often too.
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=29.67...39,,0,5.14

And lastly for this post, this is a place called Maudes.  They have great deserts and coffee and have board games and old movies playing inside.  They also do live Jazz on Fridays and it's right in the middle of downtown and open till like 3 AM so its great for after whatever fun.

Also if you pan to the right that's our theater and this is also where they have farmers markets and festivals (they shut down this whole area from car traffic)

Google just finished doing a street view sweep of my city last month, in all it's shitty sand and mud spring glory.
Now to wait for it to be processed, censored and uploaded.

I like that they did a street sweep when my friend had his bike out because he was selling it on Craigslist and he just told the guy to meet him at our store

I'd put VooDoo Doughnuts up, but the google street view is from before they put this one up.  Lemee see if linking from their site works though

I can get boxes of day old doughnuts for a few bucks from there, and my boyfriend will hopefully be getting a p/t job there now too.

Street view is outdated, so you just get pictures of my favorite bar/restuarant in the world.

Portland has foodcarts everywhere, and this is my favorite block of them. It's kinda out of date but it has a place to get 2 big slices of organic pizza for 2-3 bucks, a couple awesome Indian food carts, some yummy thai, and like a bajillion Mexican carts.
Oh, and a homeless person molested my boyfriend there too. Lol.

I haven't lived in Richmond long enough to really have any favorite places, but here are some from West Lafayette, IN where I lived for 6 years...

O'Bryan's Nine Irish Brothers. An excellent pub with some damn fine pub chips and potato stew. I almost bust a gut (literally) eating it on my 24th birthday. This place is owned by a guy who used to cut hair, and said he'd sell his business and start an Irish pub after all of his kids graduated form college. The last one graduated in 2004, so he knocked down the salon and built this pub, which opened a year later. It's awesome, and if you go on your birthday the owner will give you a shot of some very very good whiskey on the house.

Chumley's. Another excellent pub, they've got a really good Reuben and used to have some tasty fried pickles until they took them off of the menu. Go there on a Monday or a Thursday for schooner night - $5 buys you a 32oz glass goblet that you get to keep (and bring back on future Mon/Thurs to save some $$$), then you fill it for the price of a beer and a half, or a double for mixed drinks. A steal!

Triple xXx Root Beer Co. 'On the hill but on the level'. An amazing diner that was actually featured on the food network's "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives". It's the oldest drive-in It is also one of only two xXx restaurants still in existence accd to wikipedia. Try the Duane Purvis and you will never look at peanut butter the same way again. They also have some excellent biscuits & gravy, and breakfast specials that are pretty decent all things considered. If you like sit-down service as opposed to eating at a counter, check out Route 66 Diner. Same owners, same menu, sit-down service (and they take credit cards! the original xXx is cash-only).

Hot Box Pizza has some amazing pizza specials. It replaced a bar in the strip mall, which made a lot of people sad but the food is amazing. The Big Ten Combo is a steal ($12.99 for a large pizza, an order of delicious breadsticks, and two 24oz keepable cups for fountain drinks). Try the BBQ Chicken pizza, and the breadsticks with Nacho Cheese dip. Also, they always put tootsie rolls in the boxes with their pizza for some reason. Odd, but who cares! It's good food!

And one non-food 'haunt': Von's Shops, specifically the bookstore. It's this rickety old building that houses the many facets of Von's (including a comic book vault and used book store in the basement, a whole lapidary room, a crazy huge selection of beads and incense, even a movie rental over in the music section) as well as Harry's Chocolate shop, the oldest bar on Purdue's campus. I'm not a huge fan of Harry's myself, but it's a holdover from prohibition as a speakeasy and has a lot of character. Von's though is pretty awesome, and has survived TWO fires that threatened to burn down the building.

they built another voodoo doughnuts?  Just not the same when you're not buying it at 3am after leaving a show, strip club, or both.

Serranos is a local chain with amazing food...you can be in and out in 30 minutes, the service is that fast. Sometimes I spend more time at Whataburger waiting for my food than Serranos. I'd do streetview, but I dunno how to get that link. Sad

Seriously, it's not even a new usage of the word, zaneyard is just dumb.  Those are actually the origins of the word, the "ghosts in a place" meaning came later.

Oh god how could I forget the best pizza joint in Gainesville: Satchel's
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s...94,,0,5.83
This place has some amazing pizza and salads.  It's tiny and always slammed.  People fight over the deep dish pizza here.  Also you can eat in a shelled out VW van with a table and seats installed.  They also have a decent selection of beer on tap.

They got so popular they opened up a junk shop behind and then a patio for boozing it up to live music.  Which is good because before they'd cram the band into the main building which isnt very big.  One of my most memorable dates with my wife was when we tried this place for the first time and spent a couple hours there because some guy randomly sat down at the piano and started what ended up being an hour long freestyle piano jazz session.  It was amazing. (turns out he was a friend of the owner)
