Aw man, I gotta get one of these. I can't wait to hold turtles, punch barrels, and call the developer of Penumbra an asshole.

Problem with this, I'd rather spend my $100 on a second 9600GT

Looks cool though

When I first saw this, I expected to be so disappointed by hype. I'm pretty interested now.

And all benchmarks I've seen for the 9600GT show a near 80-100% performance increase in most games with SLI (a unique facet about the card).  9600GT already runs pretty great, even if I can't do stuff like play crysis on high/max settings at max resolution without it running at 15-20 FPS (which a second one would let me do, at much higher framerates).

Did they eventually email that to you? Also, how do you get the key for Penumbra? Nothing seems to come with it.

All I can think of is how freaking incredibly fragile the damn thing looks.  That and it would be totally worthless for any FPS needing any kind of twitch turning.

Well, unless you're a gorilla who applies 10 pounds of pressure to move a mouse, it really doesn't seem like there is any easy way to break the thing by using it. Also, probably nobody is going to use this for competitive multiplayer games. Why do you think the only stuff people care about with this are things like Half-Life, Penumbra, and Crysis?

Edit: Answer my questions, Versus. ):

From what I hear, using this for multiplayer is apparently a huge advantage. When you get shot, you can actually feel where the bullets came from, and turning is supposed to be much easier with this. It's so much of an advantage that people are thinking this'll be outlawed in tournaments and such. Don't really see how it works though, since every shot towards you essentially means your aim will be thrown off slightly.

Can't say for sure of course, but when I get one I'll definitely play TF2 for a while using it with optimistic dreams that this'll somehow increase my situational awareness or something rather.

I'm kind of hoping for that too, but my optimism dies when I realize it costs money.

I need a sugar daddy, anyone interested?

Yeah I don't buy that, and frankly I don't see how holding your hand on a floating orb is every going to be anywhere near as quick or accurate as wrist level movements with a mouse.  And doesn't the thing "turn" your view like a faster analogue stick instead of direct movement like a mouse? (I mean I'd assume it would have to, because you couldn't reset motion without returning to center).

1. It turns your view like an analog stick when you're turning really quickly, then switches back to normal.

2. You can rest your elbow on something.

3. Uhh, the one I'm buying comes with a pistol grip, which will be way easier to use than the little orb thing.

Cheap and gimmicky. Fun for single player, but it'll do you no advantages for mp. Also, I recall something like this being made years and years ago and it was quickly shunned by the gaming community for being uncomfortable and inaccurate.

I have this super secret way that I've been using for the last several years to give me a pro advantage over other players by giving me directional feedback when I get shot to let me know where the bullets are coming from. It's called "sound", I wasn't going to share my secret with you guys, but I figured it might save you a few bucks.

You've been looking at some wacko benches. A 9600GT sli is outperformed by a 9800GTX+/4870, which are around 100 bucks at this point. Even the GTX260 was on sale last week for $120, and if you think that the 9600 SLI would be anywhere close to that, I need to show you a thing or two about pokemans.

I'd love to know where you've found a GTX260 for $120 and the 9800 for $100, because according to what I've found any trustworthy and good brand for these cards says anything but:

9600GT: $80

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814143130

9800GTX: $140

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814130456

GTX260:  $175

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814130372

Now that GTX is a great price, even still.  But about $100 more than the 9600GT and the 9800 is about $60 more.

Benchmarks in Crysis demo for the initial drivers/launch for 9600GT SLI:

And Call of Duty 4:

And here's a compairison that shows performance against the 9800GTX:

[Image: graph_video.html?test=cry71&d1=15.867&d2...%209800GTX]

[Image: graph_video.html?test=cod472&d1=55.567&d...%209800GTX]

Sources:
http://www.motherboards.org/reviews/hard...763_1.html
http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-96...w-inno3d/1

In most cases the 9600GT SLI get's about double performance, or close to it... and beats the 9800GTX in performance.  It really does depend on the game and resolution though, very high resolutions tend to work better or as-good with the 9800GTX but I can't run at those resolutions with my monitor anyways.

So yeah, I could spend $80 on what essentially would be a better 9800GTX and get double framerates in everything (on average) or throw down the $140 for a 9800GTX and throw out my old card.  I'd rather pick the former Wink

Assuming my PSU even can handle to of them (550 watt).
