Long/Short, I'm tired of ZA locking my apps up in kernelspace because ZA is retarded.  Any good recommendations for something that's not ZA?

<@Negate> there is a simple pattern
<+Karrde> I changed my mind.  Gonna cosplay as a gay demon from hell and get negate raped instead XD
<+Caffeine`work> Karrde: Gay demon? Why would you need to cosplay just go as yourself
<+FlyingMongoose> Caffeine`work: Karrde would actually have to tone it down some.

Yeah, if you have a router that is a sufficient firewall. It's also much more powerful than any software firewall.
Also, if "locking up my apps in kernalspace" is what I think it is, every software firewall will do that.

Might as well not have any firewall at all.

In terms of local Windows 'firewalls', the integrated WindowsXP-SP2+ firewall is your best bet.

If you are already using a gateway that has either NAT or a firewall (or both), the Windows Firewall is still suggested.

The advantage of Zone Alarm is that it requires that you approve the connection requests from all unknown applications. For example, if you were to acquire a trojan, Zone Alarm will prevent it from connecting to the network. That is, until you grant access.

In the end, like an anti-virus, a security tool like Zone Alarm is only as good as the user. There is no replacement for responcible and skeptical user.

Nah, it's just that ZA as of an update about six months ago, for whatever reason, doesn't play nice with FF and a lot of other apps.  The company knows about the problem, but their solution is to use different software, instead of actually fixing the problem.  I like ZA specifically because of the program control feature.

I hate ZA. My poppa uses it and it just frustrates the hell out of me whenever I use his computer.
