Americanos are great, but they can be really hit or miss depending on where you get them. I typically would just grab a brewed coffee. If they have decent espresso I would pick up an Americano.

I’m pretty uncool and just drink stuff like Tazo when I have tea.

I thought espresso was just a fancy term for coffee and steamed/evaporated milk blended in.

Espresso is a type of coffee that is brewed in a certain way, while most coffee is drip brewed or percolated, espresso is brewed by using very hot water at high pressure.

This creates a much more bitter and caffeinated liqueur

It’s similar. I’m not a coffee expert or anything; I just drink a lot of caffeine because I don’t sleep very much.

Espresso is an actual kind of coffee bean. Typically, the beans are roasted, stored, ground up right as you order it, put into a tightly compressed “scoop” and small amount of hot water is pushed through it using a machine. The result is kind of like a really concentrated 2 ounces or so of coffee. It has a slightly sweet though burnt flavor to it, and has much more concentrated caffeine content to it.

The method for preparing it is a little different then just scooping Folgers into a filter and hitting a button, which is why espresso drinks are typically more expensive then just a brewed coffee (not to mention the cost of the other ingredients).

Actually its not supposed to be bitter, that is caused by having incorrect temperatures. The bitterness is caused by the bean being burnt, a good espresso can be had without sugar. Also this method of brewing creates certain flavor changing chemicals to be created, but they are unstable and will be destroyed withing like 5-15 minutes so you are supposed to drink an espresso quickly.

And yes I had the perfect espresso once in my life, I drank it quickly with no sugar and it was delicious, I will probably never find one so perfectly made again.

I'd get an espresso maker if they weren't so expensive.  $40 on the low end, $80 on the standard end.

I mean damn.  That's 20 espresso drinks from Starbucks, for something I certainly don't feel like having every day.  And the starbucks includes all the ingrediants too so I'm still not taking into consideration the cost of milk, coffee, etc anyways.

In order to feel like I've justified my purchase I'd have to have about 40 espresso drinks to really feel like I've saved money in some way.  And even then it's only half off Tongue

That's like a years worth of espresso for me

My first internship had a $2000 machine that did coffee and espresso and a side thing for steam, it was epic

[/quote]Totally. I used to check Goodwill on a weekly basis looking for furniture and electronics (got a Super Scope for $20, pretty sweet), and found one for $7. It's a Krups Steam Espresso machine, kinda like this one but white:
[Image: 00000120325-KrupsFND111SteamEspressoMachine-large.jpeg]

Takes some getting used to, actually requires skill to load/operate it as opposed to the $2000 one at my work, that one had coffee pods that locked in and you were good to go. Anyways, the carafe was cracked, so I kept looking, and a few weeks later found another one. I donated the one with the broken carafe, figured I should spread the love. Good times.
