what sucks the most about having a computer stolen is the only thing difficult to replace is the thing thats easiest to backup: data

To that end, thankfully I'll lose nothing; one laptop was my 6 year old Ubuntu laptop that I just use for web-browsing and perhaps SSH'ing into my box, nothing exploitable, incriminating or damning was stored on it at all besides some cookies of random junk like Killing Floor's wiki.


The 2nd laptop is in even better shape, it's a business hp laptop with Lojack for laptops installed (Supported by code in BIOS, it will function even if the HDD has been removed from the laptop).

If it's even so much as booted up inside an unsecured wireless point, or hooked up via ethernet, it calls home to the software manufacturer who's already aware that it's been stolen and will forward the information to the police handling the incident. Since I already suspect it's in my neighbors house, I took the liberty of recording the WAN IP address of their unsecure WiFi and forwarding that to the police as well, so if Absolute software calls them with that IP address, they can roll on them within minutes. If it's booted to windows (I have the guest account enabled on the laptop, they'll have no problem getting in and giving more evidence on who they are) - everything that happens on the laptop will also be recorded by the Lojack software, forwarded to the vendor and subsequently the police. So if they like, log into their facebook page, they're fucked.

I've got an 11 day old image of both that laptop and my dad's laptop, so if worst comes to fruition, we won't really lose any data, we'll get slightly newer laptops at the same time. We have good homeowners insurance.

I never said my life is all bad and I KNOW not everybody hates me, despite the fact I tend to be unintentionally annoying, in fact today I am having a pretty good day. I walked 2 miles in gym and damn it felt good, and then I finished making the bomb site point on my CSS map. The only reason you see me as a emo crying fuck is you don't talk to me, you have yet to get to know me and to be honest I would rather NOT talk to you because from first impression you were a complete and tottal dick to me, and this persists. Maybe if you talked to me like Didzo and Backfire does you would see me different, but no. Keep up your persistant effort to piss me off or insult me, because in the long run I don't give a fuck and I will take it all in stride.
