There aren't enough single ladies coming to the party as it is, you'd just throw off the ratio even further.

I was going to post this in the made my day thread, then I realized, just because I'm happy that something didn't go completely wrong, and it might have even been the best interaction between my employer and myself in several months, doesn't mean it still isn't Fucking My Life.

My employer recently enacted new Exchange Policies for handheld devices- You have to agree to these policies for your mail app to sync if you use a personal device to access your corporate email on the go.  They are:
  • A 4 digit or stronger passcode or password on the device (no patterns) to unlock
  • Corporate IT Services will have the ability to monitor the status of the device
  • Corporate IT Services will have the ability to monitor the contents of the device (FUCKING REALLY?!)
  • Corporate IT Services will have the ability to perform a remote factory reset without notifying you
  • A factory reset of the phone will be done automatically if too many failed unlock attempts occure
  • A factory reset will occur if you leave their employment

I've not been issued a company phone, there are currently know plans to give me or any of my teammates company phones, either.  We have been instructed to use or personal phones for business purposes, they're providing a decent discount with verizon for being employes (27%)

I finally got cut off from exchange today for not changing to a passcode on my phone and agreeing to the new exchange policies in my mail app.

I sent my supervisor an email that I would no longer be reachable by email when I'm mobile and explained why.

She thanked me for actually standing up to against the Bullshit and asked if she can forward my email up and use it as ammunition to stop the corporate stupidity and get us some company phones.

The first and second to last ones seems appropriate to protect any sensitive info that might be in your corporate email, the rest of those are bullshit, especially the contents bit.

I had to agree to the same, but I know the people in IT who would be the ones doing it, and they're like 'no we never actually reset anyone's phone'. Plus if you're planning on quitting, just disconnect outlook and that removes them as a device admin.

But this kind of shit is seriously why I want a dual-persona phone.

Been a bit lazy with the gym lately and my weight loss has been slowing down, so I decided to get off my ass and go to the gym every day this week. Once I get there, it's closed for the whole week! No one got told about it. I can't renew my membership which ends on the 29th because I'll be paying for 4 weeks when i can't use the facilities.

RIP 1 TB Hard drive.  Nothing could be recovered.  I'll have to re-download everything that was on it.  It was nearly full. Fuck

Figure I'll leave this here for Didzo to giggle about after that beamer rear ending thing. (Yes, I still occasionally lurk.)

Got a nice, extremely good condition '99 Saab 9-3 Turbo about a month ago (ka-CHING! Working for a company with "engineering" in the name for the last 7 years has finally paid off!) - this thing is pretty fucking quick.

The original owner took the time to update the part differences (Incl. engine) between the basic 9-3 and the 9-3 Viggen (Saab's version of Ralliart/STi/Ford Racing Division/etc) so I essentially have a 9-3 Viggen that looks like a pleb 9-3.

I already fucking love this car, it's got roughly 80% or so of the power under the hood of a 2010+ WRX STi. Not nearly the torque (Missing 40-100 ft-lbs, depending on gear(except top), it's electronically limited so it just doesn't roast the tires off), but it's also not AWD, so it doesn't need to move as much rotating mass. It's comfy as all hell, it was rated higher than Volvo's C / BMW's 3 series' in every aspect for the same production year, generally it fully lives up to it's billing as a "compact executive sedan".

Automatic heated leather, power fucking everything, the sport package, the works.

Monday on the way into work, the transmission shits out on me.

New transmission time.

For a car that's made by a company that no longer exists - oooh yeah parts are expensive, boyo.

But wasn't Saab owned by GM by this time? Shouldn't a GM OEM Tranny work?

my co has similar "bring your own device" policies. I sit on the committee that makes them, and they are driven by sadistic HR directors and legal.

Luckily, I know the IT folks and none of them have time to enforce or abuse any of that. Granted, if you work for a big big org then someone there might have the time and inclination to abuse the policy.

kudos to you, though, for standing up. If I tried that, I'd have the corporate ladder sawed off from above and below.

then again, I'm completely comfortable going in front of my CEO and explaining the sociological research I am conducting on GRINDR.

Short answer: no =( every single part in my car is 100% Saab through and through.

GM did it's leverage action in 2000, and the 1999 9-3's were the very last (Save the 9-5's) to utilize all Saab components.

It wasn't until 2003 that they started having major GM designed parts integrated when they did a collabo and designed a new platform from the ground up (Which would be the new 2003 9-3's)

GM actually took some of the nicer points of Saab's Trionic engine management and it's on the block ignition module and integrated them into GM branded automobiles.

My supervisor sent out an email to everyone explaining that they should expect it to happen to them shortly, if it hasn't already and it was their choice.  But didn't really offer any information on the policies.

I sent out a followup with the policy attached, and a plan English TLDR, I wasn't even trying to be prejudicial, just make sure people were well informed.  Within 30 minutes teams from two different states had decided to stop syncing their personal phones to exchange.  I know there are places where I'd get fired for causing this much trouble.  Frankly, I'd be OK with that.

Because I had an interview with a client for a consulting firm, and I crushed it, and they want me, they want me bad.  The problem is it's only 1 week of work initially, granted it's at nearly quadruple my current hourly rate.

The more dramas added- it wouldn't have been a thing to take a week off from my existing job to go moonlight while I was working from home, since the week I need to consult was after two weeks I'd be traveling.   BUT NO, two hours after I have this interview, my company has to go push back the small project right into the middle of my consulting time.  This is going to be an interesting conversation with my supervisor.

Sucks about the transmission but Saabs are a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine (as are jaguars and volvos). Nice find.

Better news: One of my co-workers brother-in-law works white collar for LKQ in Maine and has managed to source me a replacement transmission - for about 50% of what I thought I was about to bleed out.

It was the find of the century as far as I'm concerned. 5 years or so ago when I got my old Altima, I had missed out on a $2000 2003 E39 (540) 6 speed by a peasly 15 minutes, it was in better than KBB condition, by far. Some rich as fuck couple owned it and he bought her a new Porsche SUV to replace it, they were simply the kind of people to pass on something awesome because they don't need the money.

15 minutes. FML.

So this car pretty much makes up for it. Not exactly a 540i stick, but close enough for me to be very content. I got to this car only 3 minutes after the last owner posted the ad, and I know if I hadn't snapped it up the next caller would have.

He posted a sort of vaguely worded ad about a 99 9-3 with a few aftermarket parts installed, but made sure to also vaguely state on the phone when I called him that "huehue ad may have understated a few aftermarket parts".

Soon as I got there and fired it up, the clutch was noticeably stiffer than you'd expect in a not-tuned car, the exhaust note was decidedly lower and had more growl too. Figured out what was going on when I popped the hood and noticed the springs were stiff as fuck and the intercooler was bigger than stock too. Then I did a really gay little dance and asked him if this was a Viggen convert and he was like yup=)

Not gonna lie I slept in it the first night.

People who buy a Cayenne have more money than sense anyways.

I am unemployed again.  Well, minus that week of consulting work coming up.

And I can't decide if I want the 52" plasma in the living room, or the 47" LED.
