SMEDLEY?

Word I got from the pipe is that PS Next would have had an announcement earlier had he not stuck his fingers in the pie and sent then back to "retool things", which the dev team was not happy about.
[/quote]I think "Suck It Smedley" is a good name for an outfit.  Just sayin'

F2P is news, Beta isn't. Only problem is he doesn't say in the article where the F2P comment is coming from.

I hope F2P doesn't end up ruining the game.

depends on how they play it out. but im pessimistic about it.

figure if you spend 40-60$ on whatever ingame shit they have would it be equal to the game being fully unlocked ? i dont think so.

i suppose an analogy could be drawn between vanilla tf2, and neopolitan tf2 with sprinkles and hats.

the f2ps start with vanilla and that could get you by just fine, whereas the paid players would have access to different weapons and cosmetics.
the analogy ends there because i doubt there will be random drops to unlock paid weapons permanently.

It's fucked....  PS current subs have outlasted any SOE game they put up there since everquest.  People still are playing at 15 bucks monthly for a game that hasn't had an update in 3 + fucking years..    There's nothing out there that matches planetside still and yet they will go this route.    Fucking doomed..

It all depends, if its pay to win - ie. pay us money and get better guns, versus, pay us money and get cosmetic hats hats, the former we're all fucked, the latter, meh

I'm of the opinion that being free to play could work out very well for PS2, as long as Sony doesn't make it retarded.  As long as you're only paying to unlock advanced features like command ranks and outfit creation, the benefit of legions of free shitty players to annihilate will outweigh the downside of having to pay periodically.

PS also had a huge problem of FPS players not wanting to pay a monthly fee, same thing killed GA and Huxley

F2P is the perfect thing for Planetside 2 I am excited it will have it.

That means strong populations, as longas the game itself is fun.

99% sure how F2P will work involves either buying classes or accelerating skill aquisition. For example, they said their skill system works like Eve in that you click a skill to learn and X number of hours or minutes later you will have said skill. They could easily monitize that using a farmville method by making it so you can jump ahead by giving them money.

And/or they could also do a Leauge of Legends approach in that certain "classes" will involve money, and every week a new class structure is introduced or put on "sale" for free for a week or something to that end. I know Tribes Ascend will be taking a similar approach to that.
