Virgin just piggybacks Bell in Southern Ontario. Been with Virgin mobile going on 5 years now and haven't had any problems.

Hello months-old thread,

I'm fed up with the bullshit my iPhone 3GS has given me over the 2+ years I've owned it (lately, it's taken a liking to crashing repeatedly until its battery runs dry, which seems to only take 30-60min). Rather than subject myself to the cognitive dissonance in getting a 4S. So it's time I switched to a more open platform 8)

I need your recommendations since I literally know nothing about Droid phones. I'm stuck with shitT&T because of a family plan. These are the options available to me and have generally good reviews on the sites I've browsed:

Samsung Galaxy S II
Samsung Infuse
Motorola Atrix
HTC Inspire
LG Thrill

The Galaxy S II has a lot of editor's choice awards, so it's the one I'm currently leaning towards. What input to you guys have?

(also, I'm going to need to migrate my music library off of iTunes to Songbird or Winamp now. How does music management work on these phones? Drag and drop? Are there extensions or plugins I can use?)

Good timing Timball. This is the perfect time to be looking at Android phones.

There are currently three top-hitters that hold the spot light: Samsung Galaxy S II, Motorola Droid RAZR, and the just announced Google-Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
The SII is available now, the other two should be out next month.

You really cannot go wrong with any of them, however the Nexus is the new dev platform, so it gets all the updates first... and comes with the brand new Android release: 4.01 Ice Cream Sandwich. It also has the best screen of the bunch, true 720p, NFC, etc.

The RAZR is splashproof, has an 8mp camera and accepts a microSD card.

Oooh. I was wondering about the Nexus. The RAZR's 8mp camera versus the Nexus' 5mp doesn't make a big difference to me. The higher screen res sounds pretty nice; I know it's better than the Galaxy S II (I was just at an AT&T store checking it out). That may actually be the new champion, but I'll have to research more. +1

EDIT: The thing has a damn barometer sensor?!

Doesn't appear that AT&T will be offering the Galaxy Nexus subsidized. Which means I'd have to shell out $600 to get one unlocked, that or find a way to switch to Verizon (probably a good idea). Ffffff

Mind linking to a source? I'm trying to decide between the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Nexus as well, but AT&T is also a requirement for me. If the $600 price tag is true, then that may be my deciding factor.

Edit: There also seems to be a new GSII variant out called the Galaxy S II HD LTE. No idea if/when this is coming to the States.

My "source" was merely a lack of articles stating that AT&T would offer it, an idea which this article hints will actually be the case. So maybe we'll be fine! But I'm in the same boat as you. If AT&T offers the Galaxy Nexus, I'm getting it. If not, I'm going with the SII or eating my words like a hypocrite and returning to the 4S.

You won't go wrong with the 4S, you can be sure of exactly what to expect. It has many advances over your 3GS.

Okay this thing is raping my battery. It's draining at a percent every 2 minutes. I swear if I have to switch back to a default rom...

That's just not right...

_________

Okay tried the advice they had on their wiki troubleshooting where you fully charged the phone then reset battery data. After that, I left it on my pocket for a half hour. Battery drain 10% percent whole locked with wifi and mobile Internet off. Any ideas? :/

li-ion batteries don't discharge linearly

and often, the battery isn't charging when it's plugged in and it's at "100%" because otherwise it would overheat so the battery stops charging for a set amount of time before it tops it back up to 100

don't leave wifi on ever

also, don't use a task killer thing i don't know what that icon is on the top left there.

Evil Cheese: We got raped http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/sams...-20111027/

It's definitely not going to be available on AT&T anytime soon.

EDIT: Never mind, we are...unraped? http://www.intomobile.com/2011/10/27/ver...clusivity/

Well I mean what's going on is my battery was just fine before I installed cyenogenmod. Now it's "drain a 1% every 3 minutes while sleeping, 1% every one minute while active". Gunna let this battery drain then recharge it again and see if that does anything.
