These photos are crazy awesome and I'm still trying to figure out how he did some of them.

So I'm thinking of starting a photo a day blog. I also can get Photoshop CS6 for relatively cheap as a student. I kind of want to take this seriously since it was one of my favorite hobbies and I'm sad I've lost most of my photos from when I was doing it in undergrad.

This is my friend as Taurus:

We made the horns by cutting out the shape in foam board and running a LED flashlight behind it. The picture I took in the dark using a flash off to the side. In photoshop I adjusted the levels a bit and then turned the brightness all the way down. The horns were then added 1 at a time as their own layer. I cut out his head and moved one horn behind it. I then positioned the front horn and blended both layers by removing the black. I further blended with the eraser tool with a hardness of 5%. I then created a vector mask on the front horn and used the gradient tool to further blend it in. I'm mostly happy with the results except I don't like the way the front horn "attaches." I need to find a more natural looking way to make it look like it is actually coming from his head.

I played with it some more, duplicated the base layer and added a mask with a radial gradient around the horns. Then I bumped the brightness and shadows up on that to make it look more like the horns had light coming from them. Then I painted in some on the base of the horns to try and fix that edge. Still don't know how to make it look natural.

Hm well, if you want the horns to look more natural, I would suggest moving them back a little so that they protrude more from the sides of the head instead of near the front.

You can also try adding shadows to the base of the horns to give it an appearance of extending from the head. From the base to the tip of the horns, it should be: shadows, highlight, shadows, respectively, if you are going for the extending out to the sides with tips curving inwards look. Right now it is more of a highlight, shadows, highlight type of lighting.

It still looks really awesome and I can't wait to see the rest of the set!

I'm not really great at taking pictures, and I've never really had a nice camera, but here's a few I've taken

Just a photo of a flower I took earlier this week while hiking. Probably not the best pic I ever took in terms of composition, but meh. There's a bug hiding peeking behind the flower (check the full sized pic), so that makes it worth uploading.

I was using a Canon G9 with a wide angle lens. I'm having a tough time finding a decent photo that showcases that fact, but I'll resume my hunt tomorrow. Not really feeling the batch of pictures I took on this trip as a whole.

Anyway, really unsatisfied with the bunch of images I took as a whole. Don't like that wide angle lens in a forest environment.

When you take HDR pics do you have the camera do it or do you just take bracketed shots and use photoshop or something? Also when you take lightning shots do you just leave the lens open with a bulb and wait for a flash? If so what aperture/iso do you use?

I use CHDK for a scripted bracket on the camera then I merge the pictures in Photoshop CS5
Actually here's 2 more that I did this afternoon, I was awe struck at how beautiful the sunset was while I was mowing so I ran inside and snapped the 6 pics for these 2. (also note the dear in the second one)

This one was done with the photorealistic preset in Merge to HDR Pro 16bit.

Here's a non-HDR deer pic I took shortly after the hdr pics on auto mode.

Yeah, all of them were actually 15 sec exposures with the darkframe removal turned off using CHDK; I hate that thing it causes long exposures to blur most of the time, even on a tripod.

That one is my favorite with http://i.imgur.com/PNvtt.jpg as a close second.

[/quote]not a huge fan of the white band above the trees in the second shot, makes it just look stitched-together. But looks cool!

I really need to learn how to frame things better.

Here's a few flower pics I took the other day. I may add more from other times once I find them.
