I just got an aluminum print of this picture I took and colored - http://500px.com/photo/42468678. I really like aluminum prints but I don't know if I am 100% happy with this particular company. I'm trying to decide if I should try and sell my pictures to make money for photography gear and I was thinking of taking the aluminum print route because it is different and looks great - plus it eliminates the need to matte and frame.

How do you hang it on a wall, then? Just bang a hole in it?

I've seen a couple different methods but the most common seems to be to glue a frame or whatever to the back. The picture is surprisingly light - mine is 20x30 and I think it weighs a pound or 2.

I've been working more on post work through Nik plugins. I think I'm getting the hang of it. Some of my stuff lately has been gaining traction on 500px:

This is a really cool project I've read about recently and I would totally back if I wasn't a broke freelance photographer.

http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/digipod

Basically, if you have old school 35mm film cameras, you can insert this sillicon pod into the camera and it will take and record digitally, so you can breathe new air into those old Nikon/Canon/Minoltas.

Shit is bananas.

I dunno, I miss film. You have a digital camera to take digital photos and a film camera to take film photos. I've loaded my first roll into my grandpa's old A-1 and I'm about halfway through it. It's a much different experience. And shooting expired film means you never know what you are going to get. I'm honestly thinking of buying a Pentax 67.

This may sound strange but I'm thinking I could do something with clouds. I never really got over finding shapes in them.

good pictures of clouds and other weather events are great and people tend to eat it up. Even meteorologists tend to love those pictures as long as you keep an original unedited copy, because they like to show of to colleagues friends, coworkers what they find.

I always keep my originals. The problem with cloud pics though is that they are pretty flat without editing - you can't really see any detail in them. I think there is actually a lot less detail in the raw photo than you see with your eye.

What settings are you shooting on?

Overcast days have the best cloud detail sans editing.

I honestly think I had it either on P or A wide open. The effects come entirely from editing in Nik. I used an emulated red filter to darken the blue sky. Then I pumped up the contrast and structure. Some of them I also added color toning to. TBH Nik was one of the best investments I've ever made in photography. I probably over-use its Tonal Contrast filter with default settings. Using it alone helps pull out details in a way I've never been able to accomplish on my own.

Speaking of overuse of tonal contrast - here is my latest set:

Here's my latest album, took a lot of shots at the Vancouver Aquarium, and I was playing with my macro lens. I haven't edited any of these and I was surprised at how great they turned out.

First two were taken like 8-9 years ago in the Appalachian Mountains, second two are actually from my iphone, first is my old work after a little snowstorm, second is obviously my cat.

I biked down to a nature walk and watched birds fishing. Here is the process in three shots 1) "hey a fish!" 2) "waarrgrbbll" 3) "FISH!"
