A blacksmith at a hippie hipster festival I was at. I don't know her but I think I might try and contact her cuz the picture came out great. She may want it.

I have a blog now! I was disappointed at the lack of blogs targeted at non-professionals and the way that professional blogs either look down on hobbyist photographers or sort of assume everyone has thousands of dollars to blow on photography stuff. Let me know if you have any suggestions for content.

Throw up some stuff on buying recommendations at various price points, especially as you note people might be on a budget, if you're just starting, combing through what's worth it to buy (and maybe some terms) can be rather daunting.

I have some thoughts on this - not what to buy but how to buy. I will prob write something up later this week.

this thread seemed the best match.

So the Fiance and I went out and took some photos at Hoover Reservoir here in Westerville/New Albany, OH

Some photos she took, some photos I took, we sort of traded off with our framing and composition

We've got two more sections on the portfolio page, and since it's mostly the fiance's photos, I've retitled it, but can't change subdomain... I think: http://flyingmongoose.500px.com/

Note: if you intend to sell prints off of 500px, never crop after the photo has been taken (it needs a minimum of 3000px wide). You know, unless you have room to crop that way.

That means, get your framing right the first time! >.<

Love those bird photos and the rich colors off the dresses, damn! I noticed in some of the boat photos that they water is a bit overblown so it's hard to see the details on the subject's face but they still turned out pretty great. Always helps to have a monopod if you're a caffeine-freak like moi.
I always find if I crank down the F-stop I can seperate the background from my subject with a bit more finesse. Like this photo was taken mid-day;

50mm on F16 with some sort of fast shutter speed, it's been a couple weeks since I took this one. ISO 200.
