After having my keyboard for awhile, trying to use HeK's keyboard feels... "wrong". Mine is much more what I would expect from a mechanical keyboard than his is, and I've had no issues gaming with it.

It's personal preference I guess... Mine can be quite loud but I like that.

Better late than never.

White only backlighting, and I'm not sure about the color scheme of the keyboard.

However, it still should have the Logitech build quality and it has all those nice macro key and media key features that make Logitech keyboards handy.

That is a sexy keyboard...

But does anyone ever actually use the "WASD" glow function that every gaming keyboard has? I know I can find WASD without even looking at the board.  Corsair had a nice idea in giving WASD different keycaps so you can feel it.

I'm in the market.
I want backlit keys, native PS/2 connector, and (I think) linear switches.
Turning off the Windows key (and/or being able to remove the switch) is also important.
What's good?

Ducky Shine keyboards fit all your needs except the native PS/2 controller.

Yep, the shine sounds like your best bet. For linear switches you should look at either the reds or the blacks.

I may be wrong but the keyboard may come with an adapter to ps/2.

It does.  I was about to suggest this exactly but it is not native.

The Shine comes in every color and switch you can imagine.

For only $30 more I could get a Deck Legend with native PS/2.

I agree with Hek here. The clear buttons are odd as well, and I think the backlighting would be too bright for my taste.

But if it is absolutely necessary for you to have native PS/2, go with it. I couldn't find any other options for that feature so far as gaming keyboards go. I think N-key rollover works for keyboards that support a USB to PS/2 adapter.

I finally jumped on the mechanical keyboard bandwagon and got an one over the weekend. The keyboard and mouse I was using prior to this was a wireless keyboard and mouse combo that sucked and would drop it's connection fairly often, and the mouse would be very laggy sometimes. I was looking for something budget friendly so I settled on a Azio Levetron Clicker Mechanical Keyboard which was about $60 at Microcenter. It's pretty bare bones so no fancy bells and whistles like backlighting or a bunch of macro keys. I did a little research and it turns out it uses APC BSW 070WH switches which are basically White Alps clones. I'm still getting used to the noise and general typing as well as the keys require more force and actuate earlier than my old keyboard, but I really enjoy the clicky feel and sound for gaming.

I picked up a Ducky Shine 3 with Brown switches and the Magenta backlight during the black friday sale at NCIX.com this past christmas.  I love it!  I agree with HeK's old posts that I probably would have ideally wanted clear switches, the browns are just a tiny bit too easy to press for me.

My roommate has a SteelSeries 6GV2 with Red switches and it feels like I activate them just by breathing on them.

Eventually, I want to get o-rings to put on mine since I would like to make the board a tiny bit quieter when I type (I can get quite "enthusiastic" when I get going... Big Grin)

I also just ordered a set of the purple keycaps from mechanicalkeyboards.com  8)

I'm annoyed, I got a ducky on massdrop a while ago, but I don't like the reds in it, and I don't like that the backlighting doesn't look like it does in the picture, and I don't like that the side letter keycaps completely obscure both the backlighting and the *lock lights.

GARBAGE.

However, I did get the keyswitch tester thing on Massdrop as well more recently, and I think I like clears/browns. Too bad I can't find a reasonably priced supplier for an entire bank of keyswitches to replace the ones in this keyboard, but now that I've typed that its one of the more ridiculous things I've said given how dissatisfied I am with everything else on the keyboard so I should probably just sell it or perhaps just use my period key more often.

I want a mech keyboard for work, a quiet tactile one, since my hands hurt from the laptop-style Dell one I have with rubber domes.
