So I'm looking at this: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-BRAVIA-KDL46E...763&sr=1-2
Not full 240 hz refresh since it uses back light strobing, but it's also a lot cheaper than others.  Any other ideas?

I got a Westinghouse 42" 120Hz 1080p with an LED backlight many moons ago (3+ years ago) for $600, and I haven't seen much more than incremental improvements since they went to 120 from 60 (which is noticable). Unless you're a Sony diehard, I think you're paying too much if you go with that one.

As far as size goes, for most living rooms (sitting 6-10ft from the screen) I think a 42"-46" hits the sweet spot on the size/price/practicality scale. Large enough to be seen, not so large that you can see the pixels, and won't completely dominate your room.

If you're looking for internet connectivity so you can watch movies on netflix or whatever, and you have a next-gen console, paying extra to have it built into your TV is a waste of money. Again, my $0.02, but since I didn't have a console (and wanted more flexibility) I built an HTPC that uses my TV as its monitor.

Most of them seem to come with internet whether I'd use it or not (I wouldn't)

Just don't pay extra for features you're not going to use Tongue

This is important, for me, its all about number of inputs, I don't want a TV that has a bare back and like just 2 HDMI inputs and maybe one legacy RCA.

The TV I have now, a 32" Samsung I got because it has an ass load of in/out options and the highest color contrast ratio I could get.

Inputs:
2x HDMI
2x HD Component
2x Regular Component
1x VGA + Audio Jack
2x S-Video
Optical Audio In/Out

And I have used all of those at some point for various reasons.

Things I don't care about or don't want to pay extra for on a TV

- Networked (I can attach a PC for that via VGA/HDMI and get much more functionality out of it)
- 3D, still have a spotless record so far as seeing this garbage in theaters too - The Office - Michael Screams at Toby: NOOOO NO GOD NO!!!

So far as brand goes my votes are for LG or Samsung

You really only need one HDMI.

If you depend on the TV for your audio and not using a switching receiver, you are doing it wrong.

Only reason I'm not is because I haven't found one worth buying yet. Plus I don't own a house so I can't mount the surround speakers the way I want to, so I haven't bothered dumping cash into it yet.

[/quote]That's a receiver/speaker combo, not HTIB. HTIB generally includes a DVD player and has zero inputs and a single output (for a television).

If you want to stick with 7.1, you can look at the HT-S5400.
It has less HDMI inputs, no network option, basic upscaling engine.

The MSRP on the Onkyo site are quite exaggerated over the retail prices.

That Onkyo set is relatively inexpensive. The least expensive Aperion set with speakers only is just shy of $1000. Then again with them you get a 30 day trial and they pay shipping if you decide don't want it, trade up program, and a 10-year warranty. Not to mention they are some of the best home theater speakers I've heard. And I wouldn't bother with 7.1 unless your room has at least some treatment.

In any case, Onkyo receivers are really good for the money. Lots of nice features and pretty good s/n ratio.

Looks pretty good for what you want, personally I'd shy away from Sony, but I dont think you'd be disappointed if you got that

$844, free shipping, but only 2 HDMI inputs. Just a thought.

if this isn't an urgent purchase you should really try waiting for black friday. You can find so many TVs for cheap as dongs.

Did some looking around.  http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007B9PM4W is looking like my front runner right now.  Seems to have the most bang for my buck in terms of inputs, size, and refresh rates.

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN46D6000-...745&sr=1-4
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-1080p-120H...180&sr=1-7
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-BRAVIA-KDL46E...523&sr=1-3

might be some other options.  Taking any and all feedback.
