I'll be coming into some cash down the road here and I was looking at getting myself a new media type device.  I have a MyTouch 3G, but other than using it as a phone and maybe playing music, it doesn't do anything else very well.  I was considering getting a 32 to 64gb ipod touch.  I could maybe upgrade my phone, but if I can't get a deal on it, I'm seeing like the 32gb Samsung Galaxy S3 (T-Mobile user) as being 600 bucks on Amazon, which is twice as expensive as the touch and just not worth it.

What would folks recommend I look at? Price range would generally be around 300 bucks or so.  Anymore and it just starts to feel too expensive for a quick, on the go, device.  Music, Movies, and Camera.  Apps would be a bonus.

Well the only time a phone is ever affordable is when it's on contract really.

I can't say I've ever felt the need for a dedicated MP3 player anymore. All of my music is on Google Music and I download my most common listens to my phone so I don't have to worry about signal/buffering.

I really wouldn't consider buying another item to carry around as an on the go device.

Save the money and get a new phone when your contract is up. Right now the phones to get are the Nexus and the S3.

I guess I just don't see what you're looking for. Kinda seems like you just want to spend money.

It's $350 unlocked! Basically the same processor and specs as the S3, minus the battery draining LTE radio.
And you always have the newest software.

I just wish there was GSM coverage around here.

My phone sucks for anything other than simple music and phone stuff, so either I get a new phone, of which we renewed our plan earlier this year, so we can't get a deal on a phone for awhile, or I just buy myself more of something like a touch which will make up for what my phone doesn't do, which are apps, a camera, and space for videos and music. I really don't see a problem with having an extra thing to carry around.

With the Nexus brought up, it does sound nice, and I can just use it without a plan and all that? I really don't know what GSM is when it comes to phones. Or I could just add it to my service to use? It's abit light on storage space, but if it runs really well and has a good camera, it could be something to get.

If you are on AT&T or TMobile, you can literally turn off your phone, pull out the SIM card, shove it into the back of the Nexus and turn it on.

It's a dual core 1.2ghz, 1gb ram 720P display and a 5mp, 1080p camera.
16gb is small on the storage side, if you are planning on keeping your movie collection on it.

With Google Music you end up streaming everything, barely need to store anything on the phone anymore, just upload to the 'cloud'.

Your phone has a micro sd card slot for storage.

https://play.google.com/store?hl=en
this is where you get apps for android.

as far as a camera function goes, most phones and mobile devices are out performed by even the cheapest point and shoots. I get decent shots with my SII but the sensor is slow as shit; you can expect it that.
A camera is pretty much the only thing that hasn't converged very well.

If you get an unlocked galaxy nexus, you can use it on any GSM service provider by putting your SIM card in it.

Unless you be more specific with what you actually want, I would just recommend a new phone.

never mind hek just said the exact same thing.

That will probably be the thing I'll look at doing if it's that simple.
