This is what I'm planning for one of my bigger Acen cosplays. Giant robots are kindof my thing and Dtrain and I figured this was the most ironic TF2 character choice. Nearly dropped my user name to swich it to my current nickname "MechaNick". Aside from the costume I'm likely going to need to spend a couple weeks memorizing lines >.>

I'm commissioning it through some friends of mine who have been doing costuming for years. They're waiting on me to decide props (a Cow Mangler would be awesome) and which team color to go with atm, but they're confident they can do a good job. Anyone have any resources they can share on construction so I can give them some backup? Thoughts? Ideas?

I actually saw someone cosplaying this at Nebraskon this weekend but he was a total douche. I asked if he had the Righteous Bison he was carrying crafted and he belts out "I fucking bought it" as if crafting your own shit was insulting. He was also doing some odd Halloween and Christmas merger for the cosplay but I didn't want to comment after that. /shrug.

Dtrain informed me how much it cost HeK to make his rocket launchers on the 3D printer and I expect working out a Cow Mangler would probably be even more expensive. Another co-worker of mine who loved prop construction has offered to look into it and build me something at no charge but I'm unsure if he could scrap together something decent.

My alternative thought was; Since the soldier is a "Bargain-bin Robot" perhaps a bargain-bin rocket launcher is appropriate. I was thinking of just using cardboard and kludging something shitty together intending it to be shitty. I'm thinking of either making a Black Box out of black duct tape or trying something a little more complex and making a themed rocket launcher box to match the shoe boxes he's wearing. Thoughts?

Mine cost a fuck ton mainly due to the overall size (huge) and that I used a good (expensive) epoxy (not polyester resin) for my fiberglass.
Hell, I spent $30 in spray paint a primer alone.

If I was going for something serious I would want to use the good shit as well. There's little point in carrying a prop around if you half ass it. Go all out or go home. However, I'm commissioning three (possibly four) cosplay this winter. Although I'm only being charged for materials that will still add up to quite the expense.

I'm actually asking my "ladyfriend" Kira if she would be interested in cosplaying with us as Halloween Scout. She has the right build for him and I know she can affect his attitude. I'll be showing her the "Meet the Scout" videos in a few days and see what she thinks.

Scratch the idea of making a cludged rocket launcher. I just need to get me a flyswatter lol.

Met up with my costuming friend the other day and she asked me a few good questions about construction for this. Maybe you guys can offer some insight?

1. Has anyone been able to find any patterns for Soldier's coat? I can't find any construction advice online for materials/ect.. Plenty of Scout & Engie tutorials though >.>

2. Any tips on his grenade's? I figure I can find something for his bandoleer/pouches at Canfield's but I didn't find anything in the Nerf line for hand held explosives.

I think I've got the rest of it nailed down. Found the right kind of boots for cheap online, friend who works in a hardware store has the large dryer hoses I need, and I know of a couple shoe stores I can raid for boxes.

Mod if needed. Or make your own out of some foam.
