Hope everyone will be able to pick up some nice dosh on the triple SC the day before, we're approaching 30+ people in the mumble server at once, end goal I think would be a platoon. As we get more people in the same channel, please make sure to observe some basic rules.

Mumble Etiquette:
- If you hear someone else talking as you are about to talk, stop, due to the time-delay its inevitable that people will step on each other, just stopping when you hear someone else start is good manners and one person can yield to the other

- Don't bind your push to talk key to something that can stick

- I don't care how you died, be it friendly fire (unless its a repeated griefer) or the most BS gun in the game, don't complain about it. A call of X is down or if you saw a large group coming in, this is fine.

- Use cardinal directions or other points of reference when making calls

- Learn2Map, if a call is made about a particular Hex that the waypoint is not on, someone should not have to explain where it is. After a few days you should know where things are or at the very least how to find them, personal waypoints are your friend

- Don't be a dick (should be rule #1), don't start arguing with someone in the channel when we're in a firefight

With that down, time for ops planning....with the increased number of people and the triple SC dosh day, it will be time to segment some roles out.

We will be running 4 squads

Alpha Squad (Public)
- Infantry, 1 Bus Driver (Or Gal Pilot) + Grunts, after each successful cap, rally on your bus to move out

Beta Squad (Public)
- Infantry, 1 Bus Driver (Or Gal Pilot) + Grunts, after each successful cap, rally on your bus to move out

Charlie Squad (Private)
- Armor + Gunners
- Magriders + Lightnings
- Gunners should also be able to pull their own tricked out tanks or lightnings, but really anything works

Delta Squad (Private)
- Aircraft
- Scythes + Libs
- All lib gunners should be able to pull air as well

If you are in the latter two squads, you have one job, pull air or armor and bring it with the group, if for some reason both of your timers are up (Mag+lightning) or (Scythe+Lib), ground pound with the infantry until they are up.

I don't mean for this to be super strict roles, at some points Charlie or Delta might be asked to 'dismount' some or all of the squad, but in general they should be sticking to their roles.

For what we would generally like to do, Id like to stick to one of the 'off' continents if possible.

Festivities begin at 6:30pm CST, bring beer

Double XP starts this weekend and runs through after New Year's as well. And it stacks with Boosts and Subscriber benefits, meaning up to 400% bonus XP. Damn.
Not a clue, but with Triple Cash tomorrow, it's worth picking up a 7-day 50% boost, I'd think.

Nope. I feel like dumping it sometimes,  to actually have the chance of making a couple hundred certs per night.

30 people on mumble?  I'll give it 5 mins before I log off with my ears bleeding.  The play by play's are just comical with some.

If most people aren't talking (or talk sparingly) it really doesn't matter how many people you have in a channel. We've come really close to 30 on more than one occasion
And it seems like every time we play, we get a little better about comms chatter.

I just wish people would stop calling out 'over there' or 'over here', especially if they're in tanks. Doubly so for telling the squad where to go / where to meet.

Usually if I do this as platoon lead its because I just updated the waypoint
Please don't do that, the directional indicators are not nearly as clear as they were in PS1. Just say on the waypoint, otherwise your 'right there' gets lost in the noise of everyone else yelling the same thing. In PS1 you always called the waypoint number, because you _had_ to. Please keep that habit.

I don't know why we don't just split the coms up between squads. Does mumble support a global chat function? I.E. platoon and squad leads can talk globally between all squads, but squad mates would only be able to chat with and hear those in their squad channel. Platoon/squad leads will only be able to hear those in their squad channel as well but they can also hear the other squad leads.

So...

1. Squad/Platoon Leads can chat to everyone on mumble, but can only hear other squad leads and those in their squad

2. Everyone else can only chat with and hear people in their squad.

I guess this would make things a little weird if you were wanting to quickly say something to caf (alpha lead) but you are in charlie squad, but it would certainly reduce the ear-bleed and keep things more managable for ops.

Not that it matters since I won't be there thanks to work :v but just throwing some input out there.

Take it from a guy that ran 40 man raids in WoW. It just comes down to comm discipline. People will be taught to share only pertinent info after a time. Channel suppression never works, nor does intra-squad channels. Chatter is fine during travel, but people need to teach themselves to not queue that button for their mental diarrhea.

I second this sentiment.

We're not rigid enough to benefit from segregated comms. I've noticed that certain personalities tend to be shot callers regardless of whether they are set to be squad leaders or not. Also, we tend to move as a platoon, so squad waypoints do not get utilized often (though this might be different with private Charlie and Delta squads for armor and air support).

If one person in charlie notices a massive armor column, it's easier to communicate that to the entire platoon at once than to play telephone through different squads. Just learning when to keep your mouth shut and how to properly communicate information is all that should be needed.

Better idea for side chatter: keep it to the game chat if shit is going down and people are already talking. Easy to talk to everyone, doesn't get involved with voice coms. Also makes pubbies not on mumble feel a little less lonely.

In game chat is awful and painful to have to hear.

Pubbies who have stuck around have found their way into mumble just fine.

Regarding Communications over Mumble:

One thing this simulated war-game gets right is the feeling of long periods of boredom punctuated by moments of sheer terror.

During moments of terror:Your mumble-mates engaged in a firefight or hunting a bus have the RIGHT OF WAY to speak. Voice communication is just as much a tool of war as a burster or a scythe, and if you clog the communications you deprive your team-mates of a weapon in their time of need.

During periods of boredom: There's plenty of opportunity for idle chit-chat, beer reviews, recommendations on how to spend your SC or certs, and dick jokes at natural points in the game. Usually this is when we've just capped a base and are waiting on an countdown or are in a bus travelling to the next fight.

The key to good comms is to use your ears and maintain awareness of what your mumble-mates are doing. If you hear someone has been ambushed or spotted an incoming column, clear the airwaves and only talk if you have battle intel or plans to share. It doesn't matter if this happens 3/4 into your story of how cool your CPU is running now that you switched to water cooling. Save it for later.

I mean in-game chat as in, literally text chat (not voice).

During meetings for mwll its pretty much what we did. Important meeting talk over voice coms, side chatter in the text chat.

Also I -might- get off work around 7:30-8p cst (otherwise, 9pm cst). Which means I'll be able to jump on on the tail end of things. I infiltrate, can run scythe A2G, and gal pilot. Also any other role really, those three are just specalities. If there is still something going on you might see me hop on then :p
