Katsucon 19, Hardboiled

So I am attending my first con this weekend, Katsucon 19.  It's your general anime/japanese/nerd culture con.  I am no photographer but I will include any pictures I do take.

Day 1:
The very first cosplay I see is Naruto.  The second, third, fourth, and fifth are all Homestuck trolls.  I'd venture a solid 20% of the cosplays here are Homestuck.  I was waiting in line for my pass in front of a group of these "fantrolls", as they called themselves.  While it is irritating to see every 5th person painted white, they do clearly put a lot of effort into their costumes and they look pretty good.  What IS kind of surprising is that it is mostly girls dressing up Homestuck.  There is equal representation of male and female characters but a large majority of the attendees are girls.  I saw some of the Wanderers, which I thought was cool, including [spoiler]one Mayor complete with spear and Can Town[/spoiler].

I did not wear my Problem Sleuth cosplay today (though it is finished and fabulous), but I could have sworn I saw one or two other Sleuths around.  It's awesome seeing the people who put copious amounts of time and effort into their costume, and even the people who didn't.  The girl who checked me in was wearing a tf2 sniper shirt (just a blue shirt with a sniper patch on the sleeve), a Robin Hood hat and a sharpie beard.  

After check in we checked out the dealer's room.  Then I beat some chumps in Brawl and signed up for the tournament tomorrow.  Finally, we watched Fist of the North Star, which was fucking awesome, and headed home.  Tomorrow I will try to get lots of pictures with people.

I've been to Katsucon a few times in the past and it's definitely a very cosplay heavy con. Sounds like you're having a good time though. Since I was just at MAGFest in January (same venue) I decided not to to attend this year though even if it's fairly close to where I live. If I had remembered it was this weekend I may have gone down just for the day to check out the merch booth and dick around a bit. Oh well a bit late now, I guess there's always next year.

I am just simply not one to take photos, but every now and then I remember to.  I will upload a sexy album when I get back to a real computer on sunday.

DAY 2 (48 hours remain)
Dressed in full Sleuth ragalia I arrived at about noon.  Met with some friends in the game room, then walked over to the dealer room to meet some other people.  It was on this short trip that I met my first fangirls.  And yes, that is the correct term.  They asked me if I was Problem Sleuth and straight squealed when I said I was.  They kept going on about how PS doesn't get the respect he deserves, never seen one before, took pictures of me (unfortunately not with me) etc.  It was awesome. 

Anyway I spent most of the day in the game room playing Brawl.  The tournament had so many people signed up that they made it 4 player free-for-all for the first rounds, which means I had a 1/4 chance of surviving.  Which I did not.  Neither did my other three friends who entered.  But I went back later and re-asserted my dominance on the common folk.  We returned to the dealer room, the art room, watched some assorted anime episodes, and observed the cosplays.  At a Halo tournament one guy recognized me again, albeit much more casually.  Two more people later also recognized me, and my fangirl list expanded.  I got a picture with these guys, and they made me do the PS victory dance on camera.  Again, sweet.  Beyond that it was just more brawl, Sonic Championship (awesome game), and taking pictures with some of my favorite cosplayers.  Got some swag I will share later.

I saw a few Homestuck costumes I did actually appreciate including:
Grandpa Harley
Candy-mode Gamzee  (A+ for creativity)
A custom Troll (again, A+)
And a Rufioh with horns at LEAST 6 feet wide (no pics  :-[ )

I forgot that you live so close to me.  And that is exactly what happened to me for MAGfest.  I wanted to go, but one day I realized "Oh right, magfest started today..."

The Gaylord is pretty incredible.  I've been there before and it's always mind-blowing just how massive it is. 

Does your friend have a costume?  I seriously doubt it since there has to be several thousand people in the center but it would be pretty cool if I could find them and take a picture.

Day 3 (2 hours remain)

Today I lost track of the amount of people who approached me wanting pictures of/with Problem Sleuth.  Safe to say this made my entire weekend  ;D.  I felt really bad because I was doing an elaborate pose for one person (whom I have pictures with) and someone else came up wanting a picture and I said in one second.  But after I took the picture I turned to find that she was gone  .  I don't know if she got a pic or not, but I hope so. 

Today was super short.  I was only at the con for about 2 hours and I spent that time taking pictures with people and last minute shopping at the art room, where I picked up this little gem:

Which will be luxuriously framed and hung in the common room for all to see.

So in conclusion this trip was a huge success, 10/10, would attend again.  I'll upload an album of pics once I gather them from everyone.

I heard there was some drama this year with another convention that was there. Namely the kids from the Jewish convention being obnoxious and getting banned from the Gaylord. Did you witness any of that? Sounds like you had a good time anyway.

I did not, but I did see them and their convention.  I also saw Jesus hanging out with Pedo Bear right outside their registration table, which was kinda funny.
