I know what they are trying to say, I'm just saying it's weak legal theory and makes the law look more like grandstanding than considered opinion (which the rest of it looks pretty strong). "Chilling effect" has historically been a term of art that primarily associated with the first amendment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilling_effect_(law) I may be missing a reference, but this seems to be a new/untested application of the term to the second amendment.

And, that's where I'm calling bullshit. I don't think any non-burdensome regulations would deter the economic behavior of law-abiding citizens (that is, whether they want or don't want to purchase a firearm). Rather, the mere threat of regulation seems to drive demand for more firearms. Any talk of regulation DRIVES further 2nd amendment participation, not stifles it.

People who want to speak out but don't suffer a "chilling effect" from fear of government intimidation. I've not met any gun owners that don't have the opposite reaction to government intimidation.

...
Also, the topic of regulation is an interesting one. Our vehicles are registered. Our internets are registered, in a sense (with private entitites that the Gov has full access to if they want). Hard to argue that the internet is not the most significant instrument of the right to free speech of our time. If that is tracked, and we are seemingly fine with it, what makes firearms more special?

This also means you should be able to buy a suppressor in Missouri without paying the tax stamp.

If that particular tax stamp is meant to "deter" you from purchasing, which is something the legislature would have to decide.

Nope.  If you read the actual bill, Article 3, para 2 section C makes it pretty cut and dry- "There's a tax on a firearm accessory not levied on other goods?  Not in this state."

Among people who are already strong proponents of 2nd amendment rights who already are gun owners, I would assume.

I can see the arguments of those against gun control, but I do not believe that it is a consistent or logical way of thinking.

now THIS is an example of a chilling effect. Using speech to shame or otherwise ridicule others into not expressing their opinions.

Posting opinions without justification will invite responses that are on the same level.

Zaius, that wasn't laying hate on you, nor do I think you have shitty opinions, in general.  Infact, I generally think you have interesting and amusing things to say and generally like you as a person.  But, I do think "Fuck this country seriously" is rather useless sentiment, and frankly more than a little insulting.  So yes, on that one; right back at you buddy.

Zaius, I suggest you remember four things:

1: Winston Churchill:
Quote:It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.

2: There are people on this forum, Agent (LT) Crow first and foremost, that have put there lives in harm's way to uphold our version of democracy.

3: when we discuss US constitutional issues, like we do here in this thread, know that passions go as deep as to the point as where people will die to remain true to their belief. This passion is to be cherished, not trifled with.

4: the glory of being American is that all of us have the right to be butthurt, once in a while. We still love you for it.

Yes, I made an ass out of myself here. Not a proud moment, and I should take back what I said rather than continuing to sperg out about something my life experiences don't pertain to. Thanks for your classy and collected responses that I've come to expect from such esteemed individuals of this community.

My apologies.

No hard feelings from me and I still love you guys. Good game, noob down.

Maryland handgun laws change next week, so to beat them to the punch I just filled out the paperwork and put down the money for a Ruger Mk III Target w/ a threaded barrel and a Picatinny rail, and my ladyfriend did the same for Ruger SR22. Plink plink!

Most common question I get at my newish job at Gander Mtn.:  "When are you getting 22 ammo?"
Then I tell them I do not know.
Then its my/the stores fault for not knowing when a commodity that sells like hotcakes as soon as it comes in.

Sometimes its not even a question. "You guys NEVER have 22 ammo!!  FUCK YOU GUYZ!"

Funny shit.

A) not your fault.
B) if they actually knew anything you have to figure out when they are getting ammo and then camp out for when the store opens so you can buy some

Making your own firearm is possible, but you can't really hand-fabricate 22LR ammo.

Hek can start bringing 22 ammo to acen now. The amount he could make would offset the cost of the trip
