According to my notification my Chromecast has already shipped (I was expecting shipping to occur on August 7th). This means it will either be here in the next week, or the week after (5-10 days shipping). But a streaming device for an HDTV for $35 is hard to say it's not worth it when you look at the portability and the cost of other devices on the market. I would already recommend it to people who travel a lot based on the price tag and size alone. I don't know if it is region specific though.

As I stated in my previous thread. I will let you guys know if it is worth it. (And I'll see what I can do to break it too, for HeK's sake because I'm sure he's curious).

I love this shit, according to that link, the chromecast has 512MB of RAM and 2GB of Flash Memory (which is actually quite a bit considering all it does is receive signals from your existing mobile device(s) like iPad, iPhone, Android Phone or Tablet, or Chrome Web Browser and displays it on your TV, it is the device you control it from that handles the streaming from the internet, the Chromecast just puts the picture on your TV).

But what that shit also means is, there's a drive for the operating system and there's RAM (which I kind of expected anyway)... that means there's shit to fiddle with... so now I don't have to tear it apart... but I'll still try to break it other ways... (Software based mostly). I should install a browser game and see how well it handles streaming that to a TV... (like Quake Live or something).

Well now... but I'm not surprised. Why re-invite the chrome operating system to handle streaming as a root capability, when GoogleTV already does that, just simplify and reduce (something Chrome team is fantastic at doing).

Not surprising, since it was established it was basically a simplified Google TV device, they probably tried some slight modifications to their existing Google TV root hacks, and they worked, so they rolled it out.

I've tried it with Chrome, Netflix, Google Play video, and music, all of it works very very well, I still have yet to try any games via the Chrome stream though (since they don't play nice on my macbook pro and I can't find my windows laptop power cord).

Is it worth it? At a price tag of $35.... I think so.

I've already got a fullblown atom-core HTPC connected to my HDTV, I don't see what this can give me that that can't. But for $35, that's a pretty good deal.

Apparently there's issues with dual band routers (have to turn off 5Ghz), and apparently hotel security systems don't always work right either.

Overall though, like I said, for $35 not terrible.
